Massage and reduced mobility
When movement is reduced, muscles can become stiff and uncomfortable, and spending more time sitting or in one position can leave the body feeling heavy and tense.
Massage may help with:
β’ muscle tension and stiffness
β’ aches and discomfort
β’ relaxation
β’ circulation and the feeling of heaviness in the limbs
β’ swelling and fluid build-up in some circumstances
β’ supporting comfortable movement within your own range
A massage doesnβt need to be vigorous to be beneficial. Treatments can be adapted around your mobility, positioning, comfort and individual needs.
Having a massage therapist come to the home also removes the need to travel to an appointment.
I have over 10 yearsβ experience working in adult disability social care, and supporting people with reduced mobility and long-term conditions is something Iβm particularly interested in.
If youβre wondering whether massage could be suitable for you, youβre welcome to get in touch for a chat.

Massage doesnβt have to mean lying on a massage table for a full-body treatment.
Everyone is different, and I believe your treatment should be adapted to you - your comfort, your mobility, your preferences and what you need on the day.
Sometimes an hour of gentle foot and lower-leg massage while sitting comfortably and having a chat is exactly what someone needs. Other treatments might work better seated in a massage chair, using a footstool, or even from the comfort of your own chair or bed.
With over a decade of experience working in adult disability services in Orkney, creating a comfortable and inclusive experience for people with different needs is something that is particularly important to me.
There is no βone size fits allβ approach to massage. π
I also offer accessible pricing of Β£48 for a one-hour treatment for individuals with a disability and for those aged 75 and over.
If youβd like a massage but arenβt sure whether a traditional treatment would work for you, please message me. We can have a chat about your needs and find a way to adapt the treatment so that it feels comfortable, safe and enjoyable for you.

Iβm pleased to be included as one of the services available through the Orkney MS Society for people living with MS in Orkney.
This service has been available for the past few months, and Iβm grateful for the opportunity to support people in our community through personalised massage that can be adapted to suit individual needs in the comfort of their own homes.
The post below shares details of the range of support available, so if you or someone you know is living with MS in Orkney, please take a look. π
Hi
Folks often ask or are unsure of what services/ activities
the local MS Society offer.
Here is a list of some of them and they are always happy to discuss any ways in which you think they may be able to help anyone (including family) affected by MS.

A small update πΏ
Iβve always travelled across mainland Orkney for mobile massage appointments, and until now Iβve absorbed the travel costs myself.
To keep things sustainable going forward, a small travel supplement now applies for appointments outside Kirkwall/St Ola. This is built into the booking system when you book.
My 20% discount for those with disabilities and over 75s will always remain in place.
Thank you so much for your continued support - it really means a lot π

πΏGetting the most out of your massage πΏ
Everyone comes to a massage for different reasons - your session should feel right for you.
πββοΈ Areas of focus
These are the places youβd like extra attention on - such as back pain, tight shoulders, or head tension. Letting me know your priorities helps me tailor your treatment to support what your body needs most. And if you simply want to switch off and relax, thatβs perfect too.
πΏ Areas to avoid
This is just as important. You might have a sore spot, an injury, feel ticklish in certain areas, or just not enjoy certain types of work (like glutes or feet). Thatβs completely okay - your comfort always comes first.
For example, if youβre experiencing lower back pain, I may suggest some gentle glute work as it can really help. This can always be done over the cover, or skipped entirely - itβs your choice.
π£οΈ Communication is key
Before and during your treatment, youβre always welcome to share what feels good, what doesnβt, and any changes youβd like.
Your massage is a collaboration - the more I know, the better I can support you in getting the most from your session.
ποΈ Availability
My next available appointment is now the 16th of May.
With the tourist season underway, my diary is filling quickly and last-minute appointments are becoming quite limited.
If youβd like an earlier appointment, feel free to message - Iβll always do my best to fit you in, but availability canβt be guaranteed at the moment. Thank you for your understandingπΏ
