Let’s talk about Chloronychia, can also be known as Green Nail Syndrome.

What it is, how it can be caused and why it’s important for clients to recognise it.

💚Chloronychia is a bacterial infection of the nail and is commonly associated Pseudomonas bacteria. It presents itself as green discolouration and sometimes dark green/black.

💚Pseudomonas bacteria thrives in warm, damp environments. It can be caused by moisture being trapped under or around the nail, previous nail damage, frequent exposure to water or nail lifting(Onycholysis). A green nail does NOT automatically mean a nail treatment has caused it.

💚If a possible infection has occurred it shouldn’t be covered by any product. Treatments shouldn’t be continued over a concerning area. Concerns should be expressed to clients and recommendations for appropriate medical/pharmacy advice where needed.

I wanted to share this information as i feel it’s important clients and nail professionals to recognise potential changes in their natural nails.

As a nail technician I think it’s important to educate clients and other professionals within the beauty industry when it comes to natural nail health. If ever i’m concerned about a clients nail, I will put the health of the natural nail first above the service💚
