Something I've been reminded of lately: being a beginner again is uncomfortable, even when you've done this a long time.

I've spent years being the person people come to for answers.

This year, I've put myself back in the seat of not knowing, learning something properly from scratch.

It's humbling. Some weeks it's gone well. Some weeks I've felt like I'm starting from nothing.

But it's changing how I think about the work I do, not just adding a new skill on top of it.

I'll share more once it's properly ready, but for now, I'm just glad I still know how to be a student πŸ“š

Stress doesn't stay in your head, it moves.

Into the shoulders, the jaw, the stomach, the lower back.

For parents especially, September often means the stress just changes shape rather than disappearing. Summer's chaos becomes term-time logistics. Both live in the same nervous system.

If you've spent weeks in a low-level state of "just getting through it," your body has been bracing the whole time, even if nothing felt like an emergency.

Bracing that long doesn't switch off on its own once the diary looks calmer.

This isn't about overthinking every ache. It's about understanding that your body and the load you're carrying were never really separate things.

A client came in last week and opened with, "I don't even know why I'm tired, nothing dramatic's happened."

Six weeks of school holidays. Two kids, a partner working full-time, no real days off in between.

Nothing dramatic, but constant.

We worked through the usual conversation first. What's changed, what's been carrying the load, where in the body it's showing up?

Turned out the story was in her shoulders and her sleep, not in one single moment she could point to.

That's often how it works. The body doesn't wait for a crisis to speak up. It gets quieter and quieter until you stop hearing it, then loud enough that you finally do.

She didn't need a dramatic explanation. She needed someone to notice what six weeks of "just getting on with it" actually costs.

Six weeks of school holidays doesn't feel like six weeks off. Not for the person holding it all together.

Here are five signs I see often this time of year, when the body's been carrying more than anyone realised.

You're not broken. You've just been busy in a way that doesn't show up on a calendar.

If any of this sounds familiar, save it for later or comment 'MOT' and we'll start with a simple conversation about what's really going on πŸ‚

Surviving the summer holidays and actually resting are two very different things.

Most parents I see this time of year have done the first, not the second.

You keep everyone fed, entertained, safe, and mostly sane for six weeks. That takes a huge amount of energy, most of it invisible.

Your nervous system doesn't know the difference between "busy with deadlines" and "busy keeping small humans alive." Load is load.

If that load isn't processed, it doesn't disappear once term starts. It sits in the shoulders. The jaw. The lower back. The sleep that still isn't quite right, even though the kids are back in a routine.

Rest isn't just time off. It's your body actually getting the chance to come back down.

Without that, September doesn't feel like a fresh start. It feels like exhaustion with a different timetable πŸŽ’

I've been working on a secret project!

Behind the scenes, I've been putting time into learning something new.

Something that will add to how I work with people, not replace anything I already do.

I'm not ready to talk about the detail yet. It's still early days, and I'd rather show up properly with it than talk about it before it's ready.

But I wanted to say something, because I think the process matters as much as the finished thing.

More on this as it develops πŸ‘€

The school run's back, and the alarms are set again.

Everyone's talking about getting back into it, but here's what nobody mentions...

The body doesn't reset just because the calendar does.

If you're a parent, the summer holidays were never really a break. Different demands, different rhythm, but rarely less on your plate.

Broken sleep. No proper downtime. Meals eaten standing up. Days with no shape to them.

And now, straight into September, straight into routine, straight into work mode.

The body doesn't get the memo that it's supposed to feel refreshed. It's just swapped one kind of load for another.

If you've gone into this term already feeling behind before it's even started, that's not you failing to keep up.

That's a body that's been carrying a lot, quietly, for weeks, give yourself a break πŸ‚

Summer's holidays are nearly done, and routine is about to return.

The school run starts again. Work picks up its pace. The slower weeks give way to busy ones.

It's the point in the year where a lot of people quietly let their body slip back down the list.

There's a better option.

Going into autumn with your body actually working well, rather than carrying the niggles you've been ignoring all summer, changes how the next few months feel.

That's what a Full Body MOT is for. A proper look at how everything's moving and working, so you start the busy season ahead instead of behind.

If your body's been on the to-do list for a while, this is a good moment to move it up.

You'll feel the difference when everything speeds up again πŸ™Œ

Things that fail suddenly usually weren't sudden at all.

They were in the background for a long time first.

The body is no different.

The aches that seem to arrive out of nowhere have often been building for years, in the places nobody was paying attention to.

It's rarely bad luck.

It's usually just something that went unnoticed for too long.

Someone came to me about their lower back.

What they didn't expect was to start sleeping better.

We weren't treating their sleep. We never discussed it as a goal. But as the tension in their body started to release, other things shifted with it.

They were less wired in the evenings. They settled more easily. They woke up feeling like they'd actually rested.

This happens more than you'd think.

The body isn't a set of separate parts. The nervous system runs through all of it. When it's stuck in a state of holding and bracing, it affects far more than the bit that hurts.

Ease the tension the body's been carrying, and things you weren't even working on can start to improve.

People come in for the pain.

It's often the other changes that surprise them most.
