On UK Mother's Days I talk about my Mum, but on
this US Mother's Day I feel it's OK to speak about
Gemma, the mother of my three children. What more
can you ask for in a mother than someone who cares
more for their children than life itself, whose first
thought is for them, whose loyalty belongs to them
above all others, who loves them with such passion
and ferocity that she would take on the world and
every danger in it to keep them safe. To guide them
through their problems, to lift them up from sadness,
to be the thing they can hurt when they have feelings
they can't control. To laugh with them, cry with
them, play with them. To be the example of what's
good in the world, to show them the face of kindness
and understanding. To make sure they know that no
matter what, without question, they are loved
beyond all others, and that home will always be a
welcome, safe place, for as long as you live. This, and
so much more, is what Gemma is as a mother, and my
children are the luckiest children in the world to have
her.
