All things superficial but hopefully also entertaining/useful. And some of my cat.

Here’s what our original loft conversion plans looked like, just to give you an idea of how things have developed after weeks of discussions. Bit of extra info we didn’t cover in the video: the inset balcony would have needed further planning permission, and we didn’t want anything delaying approval, so we changed things up and landed on our new plans instead. Loft update 🤍

One of you suggested moving the bathtub to the front of the house instead of where I’ve currently placed it in my layout. It was such a great suggestion because that’s actually where I originally planned to have it.

In this video I talk through why I decided to move it, and in the next loft update I’ll share my original mockup so you can see how the design has evolved over time.

I really appreciate everyone taking the time to share ideas and challenge my thinking. It’s helping me make more informed decisions before we commit to anything, so please keep the suggestions coming.

Loft update 🤍

This time we’re talking about the exterior of the loft conversion.

Unfortunately the idea I originally had isn’t going to be possible, so I’m looking at other options and I’d genuinely love your input. One of the best parts of sharing this journey has been reading all of your ideas and experiences, and they’ve already helped me think about things I hadn’t considered.

If you have any suggestions for exterior finishes or you’ve been through something similar yourself, I’d really appreciate hearing from you.

Loft update 🤍

A few of you commented that the bedroom looked quite small in my loft layout, so I wanted to explain my thinking behind it.

My Canva mockup isn’t an architectural drawing and definitely isn’t to exact measurements. It’s simply a rough layout to help visualise where I imagine everything going while we work with our architect on the proper plans.

I really appreciate everyone taking the time to comment because it helps me think through every decision before anything is finalised. Please keep sharing your thoughts, it’s exactly why I wanted to document this journey from the beginning.

Loft update 🤍

After a few requests, I wanted to go back and cover another early stage that I skipped over, architect pricing.

I’m not an expert, and this isn’t professional advice. I’m simply sharing what I’ve learned while going through our own loft conversion, in case it helps someone else who’s just starting their renovation journey.

I realised I’d jumped straight into planning without talking about some of these practical first steps, so I’m trying to fill in the gaps as we go. I hope it’s useful, and as always, thank you for all your questions and suggestions.
