I didn’t get the grant.

Cosy London applied for a CatalyseHer microgrant, a £5,000 award for women-led businesses, run by INCO and the Visa Foundation. Out of 120+ applicants, we didn’t make the final five.

Running a small business on your own means getting used to hearing no. Not because the ideas aren’t good, but because there simply isn’t enough funding out there for early-stage businesses that don’t fit a “high-growth tech” mould. Small, physical, UK-made brands like mine are competing for a very small pool of support.

So here’s the part I want to sit with instead of the disappointment: Cosy London made the final shortlist. Our story, a founder who couldn’t find a sleep mask that actually worked for her, so she made one herself, by hand, in small batches, with UK makers, was strong enough to stand out.

So I’m sharing part of the pitch here, with you, because despite the loss I am proud.

Genuinely grateful to the INCO team regardless, the course itself was one of the most valuable pieces of training I’ve done as a founder, and the community of women founders it connected me with has already given me so much. Onwards.
