A primary school teacher has reportedly torn a paysheet into pieces after finding his name was missing on list in Aweil North County, Northern Bahr El Ghazal State.

The incident occurred on August 10, at Makem Payam as the teacher requested a finance officer to check his name on the government payroll.

After checking, he found that his name was missing from the list, prompting him to question the disappearance of his name and angrily tear the payroll into pieces. He was later arrested and detained after getting into a fight with the finance officer.

According to the colleague who spoke to Aweil News Agency on condition of anonymity Sunday, he claimed that their names were left out when the state Ministry of General Education and Instruction, found that they were specializing in other professions at the university.

He further alleged that the education ministry has long decided to eliminate anyone who is not studying education at the university from the teaching profession in the state.

However, a separate account disputes this claim stating the Ministry of General Education and Instruction had issued an order eliminating all absent teachers from the general state paysheet in March.

The detained teacher is a second-year student in the College of Medicine at the University of Bahr El Ghazal.
He is said to have gone to the university without taking leave or permission from the ministry, seemingly putting him under the category of absent teachers.
