Well it looks like I’m not the only one this week that’s needs a reminder to Pause…😮‍💨

What does motivation look like to you? Mine is a satisfying Saturday spent in these bad boys. Some days my mind is buzzing too much to be bothered with trivial things like changing out of my pjs 🫣. In the matter of 24 hours I’ve been accepted to a new monthly market, created two new blends and a new product to add to my shop. Plus a whole plethora of planning exciting changes for the upcoming year. But much to the delight of my OH, I will end the day with a much deserved shower, so I can toast him to my future success! 🥂

How do you care for your cashmere?

The days are getting brighter, but there’s still enough chill in the air to keep my cashmere in rotation. And when it comes to caring for my cashmere I keep in mind ‘less is more.’

Washing can be stressful on the fibres and cause unnecessary wear. So I try to wear my items multiple times before putting them through a wash cycle. And what cycle do I use? Most people concentrate on temperature, but it’s really the length of time that makes a difference. I bypass the wool cycle and put my items on a short, low rpm wash at the recommended temperature.

After a wash it’s the reshape. What does that even mean? The sleeves will still look like sleeves, but natural knits have a tendency to tighten when stressed. (Hence shrinking in the wash.) The reshape gives you a chance to loosen the threads and get the garment back to your preferred fit. This may be the one time that you can give your garment a bit more oomph. During the drying process you can pull symmetrically along the seams and hems. Don’t be afraid to give it a good tug.

P.S. If you find your garment has a pong that a gentle cycle just struggles to remove, try a bit of vodka on the desired area and let dry before washing as normal. It’s a trick of trade for thespians and a sure way to kill the unwanted bacteria which cause the odour.

How do you care for your cashmere? 🧐

If your natural knit is looking a bit tired, a great way to breathe a bit more life into it is to remove the pilling. It’s normal for fabric of natural fibres to shed and this extra fibre can gather, especially in areas of high friction like armpits. You can buy specialised combs to help remove these little fuzz balls. Or like me you can pop down to your local bargain shop and get yourself a pumice foot stone. Use it just like a hairbrush in one direction and at the end you’ll have yourself a plush puffball. Swipe for the result! Please note a new stone will give off a bit of ‘dust’, but this easily shakes off your knitwear.
