Hello lovely people, sorry there's been no post for a while, I've been rather busy lately.
So let's get started with a VERY brief overview of our brain, not saying you don't know, but I think it's a good place to start.
The human brain is a very complex organ, it has the ability to receive and process simultaneously thousands of sensory and cognitive inputs through sight, hearing, smell, touch and taste in milliseconds. The brain stores information and controls our thoughts, movement, actions and speech, in fact it controls all functions of the body and mind.
The brain is very well protected by the skull and is covered by three membranes called the Meninges and cerebrospinal fluid which fills the ventricles of the brain.
The brain has three major parts - cerebrum, cerebellum and the medulla.
The cerebrum is the largest part with a right and left hemisphere divided into lobes known as frontal, parietal, occipital and temporal. This part of the brain performs functions such as vision, hearing, speech, reasoning, emotions, learning and control of movement.
The cerebellum is located under the cerebrum, responsible for coordination of muscle movement, posture and balance.
The brainstem is continuous with the spinal cord and includes the midbrain, pons and medulla. It acts a a relay centre connecting the cerebrum and the cerebellum to the spinal cord. It performs many autonomic functions such as breathing, heart rate, sleep cycle, body temp, digestion, swallowing.
So as you can see the brain is arguably the most important organ in the human body
