If you have a diverse bridal party you need to be thinking about all of the following when hiring a makeup artist:

1. Do they know how to colour correct hyperpigmentation on darker skintones as well as they know how to colour-correct redness on fairer skintones?

2. Do they have any women of colour on their profile? If they do, are the women of colour looking a bit grey (in comparison to their Caucasian clients) or like they’ve lost their glow?

3. Does the under-eye area of their women of colour clients/models look like Casper the friendly ghost has decided to reside under their eyes?

4. Do they know which products are pigmented enough to show up on deeper skintones? And do they have them in their kit? This goes for blush, bronzer, eyeshadows etc.

5. Do they know which colours complement/flatter deeper skintones or does their kit only contain product colours which flatter only Caucasian skintones? Look at what lip colours/blush colours they’re using on their women of colour clients - is it truly flattering?

Penny 🤍 my beautiful bride wanted a very natural makeup look as she didn’t wear much makeup on a daily basis so we went for a skin-like base, softly defined eyes and we opted for a tinted lip oil rather than any lipstick (as Penny didn’t want the hassle of touching up throughout the day!)
