Ever wondered what actually happens before your dining room gets designed?
This is one of those unglamorous moments testing colour combinations and checking sightlines.
In this room I’ve designed a custom wall panel and here I’m carefully testing the position of the design so that everything sits together beautifully before commiting to the installation.
Long before furniture gets chosen, we’re mapping out how the room will actually be used. Who sits where. How it flows into the rest of the house.
Whether the palette holds up in daylight and in ambient light after dark.
This is the part of interior design most people never see — the thinking, testing and problem-solving that happens on screen before a single piece of furniture is ordered.

When I first walked in I could already see what it could be. The bones were good. Those beams, that floor, the space itself, it just needed someone to actually listen to what the room was trying to say.
We kept the antique pine armoire. We kept the original stone floor. And then around all of that we built something completely new, duck egg cabinetry, a Belfast sink, marble worktops, those beautiful black handles that catch your eye the moment you walk in.
The before and after here isn’t just about how it looks. It’s about how it feels to be in it.

I first worked with these clients on their converted oast house in Tenterden to transform their downstairs living spaces. Following this they invited me back to work upstairs on the guest bedrooms.
The house is packed full of interesting architectural features. It has exposed brickwork and beams throughout, statement fireplaces, and plenty of light from the large, metal windows.
The owners wanted to avoid making the house feel too quaint, instead deciding to work with the industrial feel to create a modern, welcoming family home. A love of bold colour and modern design led the way to create a truly individual home.

Every project starts with a handful of swatches on a table and a colour combination that just feels right.
For this one it was teal and orange. Warm and cool. Bold but grounded. And once we committed to it, we took it everywhere. The sofa, the armchairs, the dining chairs, an antique cabinet we had painted to match, all the way through to an orange velvet headboard in the bedroom sitting against deep navy wallpaper.
The clients trusted the process from that very first swatch meeting. And look what happened. 🧡

Bespoke shelving built to follow the exact angle of the staircase and painted in a deep navy that makes every object on it pop.
Books, ceramics, vintage finds, framed prints, personal pieces collected over years, all of it finally having somewhere to live and something to say.
What was essentially a dead corner of the hallway became one of the most talked about spots in the house.

When my client said she wanted teal joinery, I didn’t hesitate for a second💙 Go for it.
And I think these photos show exactly why. A bold colour on bespoke joinery isn’t a risk, it’s a commitment. What makes it work isn’t just the colour. It’s the details that sit alongside it.
The glass k***s that catch the light against all that depth.
The armchair with a geometric print that brings pinks and blues togehter without competing.
The books, the objects, the art, they all sit against it in a way they never could with plain white shelving.
If you’ve been sitting on a bold idea and talking yourself out of it, this is your sign.
