FACIAL PARALYSIS, BALANCING, NOT FIXING ⚖️

When facial paralysis affects one side of the face, the muscles on the unaffected side can sometimes become more active. This can create noticeable asymmetry.

Katie’s facial paralysis causes one brow to sit lower, while the active side sits higher and works harder to compensate. This creates a visible difference between the two sides of her face.

We worked strategically to create better balance in this area.

We also treated an overactive platysma band on Katie’s active side. Because this muscle was working harder to compensate for the non-active side, it was creating a slight downward pulling effect on that side of her face.

The muscle was also visually prominent and something that bothered Katie, so we relaxed it to create the opposite effect. Rather than pulling downward, it should now provide a subtle lift, while also making the muscle much less visible and creating further balance across her face.

Katie’s treatment hasn’t fully settled yet, so her final results will develop over the coming days 🤍

I’d also like to emphasise that every face is different, and every person’s facial anatomy is unique. There is no one-size-fits-all treatment. Having the knowledge gained through years of training, multiple courses and years of practice is essential in cases like this. It’s also why Katie has chose to return over and over again for her treatments since her very first appointment.
