Dermaplaning does not make your facial hair grow back thicker. It's the most common reason people talk themselves out of it, and it isn't true.

Hair thickness, colour and growth rate are set by the follicle under the skin. Dermaplaning works at the surface. It lifts the outer layer of dead skin cells along with the fine, fair hair known as peach fuzz, and the blade never reaches the follicle. What grows back is the same hair, at the same rate.

So why do people swear it's thicker? A cut hair has a blunt tip, so it can feel different for a day or two. It's the same thing you notice after shaving your legs. The hair itself hasn't changed.

It isn't for everyone. We wouldn't do it over active acne, rosacea or eczema in the area, or if you're taking isotretinoin, and your practitioner checks that first. Results vary from person to person.
