Everyone wants the Pinterest photo.

I chase something else first.

Hair integrity.

A great colour isn’t just about what it looks like when the client leaves. It’s about whether the hair is healthy enough to still be beautiful at the next appointment.

That means managing expectations.

This client had previous platinum through the ends, so there was no way I could expose every strand to bleach for the same amount of time. If I had, I would’ve been chasing the photo instead of protecting the hair.

Instead, I left the ends out of the foils initially and went back later to cover them, reducing their exposure time. It added around 4 hours of foiling, but it meant I could lift the roots while respecting the most fragile part of the hair.

Sometimes the safest route is also the longest one.

The best colourists don’t chase the fastest transformation.

They chase the healthiest one. 🤍

Getting to step onto a stage with Redken⁠ and share my perspective on trends, consultation and glossy hair was a real pinch-me moment.

But what people don’t always see is the behind-the-scenes.

The prep.
The nerves.
The hours refining your craft when nobody’s watching.
The constant investment in education, even when it feels easier to stay comfortable.
