‘Grey Blending should be cool’
Incorrect. The technique is about blending your existing greys, not about making your hair cooler. Or more blonde. You CAN blend them and still be blonde, or blend them and still have balance, or a face frame.
The aim is softness and a beautiful low maintenance grow out. Naturally, if clients want cooler tones then yes. That’s what I’ll do. But 90% of the time they’re telling me they actually don’t. And it’s important to know how to do this for the best tonal deposit, longevity and to match the existing distribution.
Because grey hair is different and you’re not just applying your lived in techniques here…

Last time I did one of these celebrity grey blending breakdowns, my DMs went wild.
Seriously.
So many of you messaged me saying:
“Can you do more of these?”
So here we go again.
Because the biggest mistake I see hairdressers make is thinking grey blending is one technique.
It isn’t.
Look at these celebrities.
Some have visible grey concentrated around the hairline.
Some preserve huge amounts of depth.
Some barely have any visible blending at all.
Some use brightness as the feature.
Others use softness and diffusion.
Same goal.
Completely different strategy.
That’s why I always say grey blending starts with analysis, not foils.
The expensive-looking results aren’t usually created by doing more.
They’re created by knowing what NOT to do.

Low maintenance ≠ no maintenance. And this is where clients get it twisted.
“Lived in” colour doesn’t mean you disappear for 9 months and expect it to look fresh. It means softer regrowth, not zero upkeep.
If you’re booking grey blending, blonding, anything “low maintenance”… here’s the reality:
• your blonde will need retoning
• brightness drops over time (yes, even the best work fades)
• regrowth still needs bringing back in closer
• and sometimes a quick top up is all it takes
This isn’t a full overhaul every time. Most appointments are faster, lighter, and more targeted. But they still matter.
Stylists need to say this louder because “low maintenance” has been sold like a free pass. It’s not.
Clients don’t want high effort. They want predictable, controlled maintenance.
Big difference.

Part 2 of 4 - the Grey Blending Education Landscape
Let’s be real for a second.
There aren’t many stylists actually teaching grey blending at a high level.
And the ones who are?
Some are charging £5k… £10k… sometimes more.
And honestly?
That’s not wrong.
If they’re giving deep, hands-on, in-person training, years of experience, close access… that price can make sense.
But here’s where people get it twisted:
High price doesn’t automatically mean better.
Low price doesn’t automatically mean worse.
It just means… different model.
Some educators sell proximity.
Some sell scalability.
Some sell access.
Some sell systems.
I chose to make mine accessible.
Not because it’s “less valuable”… but because I want more stylists actually using it, not just watching from the sidelines thinking they can’t afford to level up.
Because what’s the point in having the answer… if no one can access it?
This isn’t about undercutting.
It’s about alignment.
What works for one stylist won’t work for another.
Different stages. Different priorities. Different business models.
So instead of asking
“Why is this so expensive?”
or
“Why is this so cheap?”
Ask:
“Does this actually give me what I need?”
That’s the only question that matters.
