1 Corinthians 13:1-13 📖 Divine love empowers us to respond calmly to difficulties, demonstrate patience in seasons of waiting, and sacrifice without complaint. We offer God's love when we can: Forgive others. The son wasted his money in riotous living and discovered both the empty promises and destructive quality of sin. Upon the boy's return, his father forgave him completely. Love made it possible to wipe away the past (Ps. 103:12). Act generously. The son, having just fed pigs, arrived at his father's estate with few expectations. The forgiving dad greeted him most warmly and dressed him in the finest garments. Godly love, which keeps no record of wrongs, enabled the father to show generosity.

Serve joyfully. What a celebration the father had upon the prodigal's return! His joy in his lost son's homecoming overflowed to others. Love expresses itself in willing service. Restore those who fall. The one who both abandoned his father and squandered his inheritance was again given full rights as a son.

When we mess up, our heavenly Father patiently waits for us to turn back to Him. He accepts our repentance, rejoices in our return, and restores intimacy with Him. The elder brother in this parable missed the point because of his self-righteous attitude (1 John 1:8). He didn't recognize his mistakes or the many times his father had shown him love and forgiveness. God calls us to a lifestyle of agape love. To whom could you extend the divine love that forgives, restores, and serves with generosity and joy?

In the southeastern part of Ghana, where the mighty Volta River winds through lush forests and fertile lands, there stood a dream bigger than the river itself — a dream to harness nature’s power for the growth of a young nation. That dream became real in the early 1960s, when engineers, workers, and leaders joined hands to build what would become one of Africa’s most incredible feats of engineering.

At the heart of this story is the Akosombo Dam, a colossal structure built across the Volta River between 1961 and 1965. It was part of the bold Volta River Project, backed by international and Ghanaian efforts alike, creating a reservoir so vast that it flooded much of the river basin and formed Lake Volta — the largest man-made lake in the world by surface area.

For years, workers laboured tirelessly through hard rock, deep water, and the rainy seasons. Their efforts transformed the river into a source of light and life for the nation. The dam’s turbines began to turn, sending electricity across towns and cities, powering schools, homes, and factories. Communities relocated from the flooded basin watched as their new towns grew and as the lake became a place of fishing and trade.

But nature, like any great story, had its twists. Decades later, especially during heavy rains, the dam’s reservoir would fill faster than expected. Engineers sometimes had to open its spice gates — massive floodgates — to release water and protect the structure. When this happened, the rushing water poured downstream and affected the lives of river communities, reminding everyone that people and nature must always share the river’s course.

Despite challenges, Akosombo remains a symbol of Ghana’s innovation, resilience, and progress — a place where water meets human imagination, and where community and engineering meet to write a story of light and life.
