You all have a wonderful weekend. 🙏🏽😍
Such a beauty to behold.
12 years ago, I was denied sitting in the front seat of a trotro because I was referred to as an 'Obolo'. This experience pushed me to put together a small group of 10 plus-sized women.
I was obviously very sad at that experience and it did have a great toll on my self confidence. I used to be very vibrant and proud of myself so much that I enjoyed taking the front seats at gatherings but that encounter changed things for me.
I starved myself just to lose weight and to be accepted by society. I spoke with a few friends who were plus-sized too and sharing similar challenges, we birthed the BIG GIRLS CLUB.
We realised society was turning our own children against us. A friend's son won't let his mother pick him up from school because his friends would laugh at him and say his mother was 'obolo.' Another was told by a nurse who was teaching her the correct way to hold her baby to breastfeed that her breasts are too big so she should look for a seamstress to sew a bra for her.
Another was driving in her car and was wrongly crossed by a trotro driver. When she protested, the mate remarked, "Hwe senia wo'ahyihy3 wo steer nu akyi." Another had her engagement to her fiancé broken because the guy's friends laughed at him for getting engaged to a plus-sized lady.
These and many more were the depressing stories. We came together and in a few months, we counted 68 members of the Big Girls Club, the first of its kind in the sub-region.
Soon enough, we expanded, establishing branches in Ho, Bolgatanga, Cape Coast and Takoradi. We also had contacts with other plus-sized ladies who had similar stories to share.
The Big Girls had a vibrant launch with a clean up exercise, donation to some deprived schools etc.
This club built the confidence of amazing people, breaking the stigma associated with the plus-sized woman.
We went to the pool side together and it was such a joy to see our body mates in swim suits.
We felt we belonged to each other. Our slogan was everywhere:
Response: WELL ENDOWED!!!
From this amazing group of women, the first pageant for plus-sized women was held.
Being plus-sized in this part of the world comes with challenges but with the help of this club, many have found their voices. We did not sleep and wake up plus-sized. There are different stories, different bone structures, etc.
What people don't understand, they criticize.
One day, we were hosted on the STANDPOINT by Oheneyere Naana Dansoa. That show opened the eyes of the public. Let me say THANK YOU for the opportunity, madam. I trained as a Diabetes Educator and was the Customer Service representative for LIFESCAN Johnson & Johnson for many years. I can say for a fact that many people with what you call "normal sizes" are most carriers of non-communicable diseases.
Being plus-sized is not contagious. If you don't like it big, just go for that which suits you because some actually like it big!

(1.) HOW TO EXPEL WALL GECKO.
To expel this dangerous creature from your homes (Tsaka in Hausa , wall gecko in English , omo onile in Yoruba and awu uno in Igbo).
Simply mix SALT and BLENDED GALIC and pour at all corners of the room , by God's grace it will leave your homes forever.
( 2) HOW TO GET RID OF COCKROACHES.
Cockroaches are disgusting insects or better said pests that thrive in houses, particularly in dark and warm places. These pests carry dangerous diseases.
There are many different ways in which you can get rid of the cockroaches, but most of the products specially created to destroy these pests are loaded with poisonous chemicals. These chemicals are dangerous for your and the health of your children, as well.
Below is presented a natural mixture that is completely harmless for your family and pets, but is extremely efficient and will kill the cockroaches instantly.
All you need is: 1 onion and 1 teaspoon of baking soda.
Preparation: first chop the onion and then add the baking soda. Place the resulted mixture in the corners of your house, in the kitchen and in the bathroom.
Very soon you will notice dead cockroaches on these places. Repeat this process every day and you will get rid of these disgusting pests – forever!
Baking soda is different from baking powder
Can a cockroach hurt you?
While they do not bite or sting they do feed and live in areas that harbor dangerous bacteria, such as bathrooms, drains, and dumpsters.
The American cockroach (like other roaches) carries the bacteria on their body and can contaminate food as well as areas where food is prepared.
