PROPERTIES OF ALOE VERA MOST PEOPLE DON'T KNOW ABOUT..

Aloe Vera has been used by mankind for several thousand years and over the centuries there have been many references to Aloe Vera in many cultures due to its medicinal properties. These properties can be divided into several groups:

VITAMINS: Apart from Vitamin D, Aloe Vera is rich in all vitamins such as Vitamins A (antioxidants), C and E. Most importantly, it is one of the few plants to have traces of Vitamin B12 (important for vegans and vegetarians).

ENZYMES: Contains several enzymes that aid in digestion (breaking down fats and sugars) e.g lipases and proteases, reduce inflammation and pain when applied topically e.g bradykinase.

MINERALS: Calcium, Sodium Potassium, Manganese, Magnesium, Copper, Zinc, Chromium and the anti-oxidant Selenium. All these are essential for the proper functioning of various enzyme systems in different metabolic pathways.

AMINO ACIDS: The human body requires 22 amino acids of which 20 are provided by the Aloe Vera gel. 7 of the 8 essential amino acids that cannot be synthesized by the body are also provided.

SALICYLIC ACID: An aspirin-like compound that possesses both anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties.

FATTY ACIDS: Cholesterol, Campesterol, b. Sisosterol and Lupeol. These four plant steroids are important anti-inflammatory agents.

SAPONINS: Soapy substances form approximately 3% of Aloe Vera gel and have cleansing, antiseptic, and antimicrobial properties.

LIGNINS: Gives Aloe Vera its singular penetrative effect when included in topical solutions, therefore enabling the skin to absorbs all the ingredients.

ANTHRAQUINONES: There are a total of 12 of these phenolic substances, found exclusively in the Aloe sap. In small quantities, they exert anti-bacterial, anti-microbial and anti-viral properties, have pain-killing effects and aid in gastro-intestinal tract absorption.

SUGARS: These are derived from the mucilage layer of the plant which surrounds the inner gel. and are known as mucopolysaccharides, which enhance the immune system and help to detoxify. Aloe Vera contains both mono and polysaccharides, but the most important are the long chain sugars involving glucose and mannose or the gluco-mannans. These sugars are not broken down in the gut and once in the blood stream they are able to exert their immuno-regulating effect. Some of these polysaccharides are not absorbed but stick to certain cells lining the gut and form a barrier preventing absorption of unwanted material so helping to prevent a "leaking" gut syndrome. In topical preparations the sugars are also the main moisturisers.

PSORIASIS TREATMENT- A TESTIMONY

Here is an interesting testimony I came across in my archives. Its from Lisa Stevenson who explains how she was able to solve psoriasis problems which had been part of her life for a long time. If you are reading this and do not know know what psoriasis is, I have added some pictures .

Lisa Stevenson writes:

I suffered from psoriasis for over eleven years.

There are four forms of psoriasis. I have had three of these over the years and sometimes two different types at the same time. In recent years, the main areas where the psoriasis was really bad, were my legs but I have also had psoriasis on the soles of my feet, on the palms of my hands, on my breasts and torso and on my arms.

I had tried everything to cure myself from treatments prescribed by my GP to Chinese herbal medicine but nothing had worked.

I started drinking 120 ml of Forever Aloe Vera Gel a day and sprayed on the Aloe First. I also took 3 Arctic Sea a day. Later when the areas where I had psoriasis became smaller, I put on Aloe Vera Gelly. After three months the psoriasis had almost completely gone. Ironically, the patches on my elbows which to start with were the smallest areas that were affected are still there although hugely diminished and hardly noticeable.

A word of warning… The psoriasis did get worse before it got better but because I could see the aloe doing something, I was brave and kept with it.

I am so glad that I did and I cannot wait to get my legs out this summer!

Another benefit I have noticed is that I no longer have to get into bed at 9 o’clock! My increased energy is a great added bonus but to have “normal” skin has truly been a gift that I had given up hope of having.
