*How to Avoid Tangles on a Washday*

PRE-POO

A pre-poo is an oil treatment that is applied prior to shampooing your hair. Favored oils for most naturals include olive oil or coconut oil, but you can select whichever oil you like. My personal favourite is Castor Oil.

A pre-poo will help to dissolve your tangles, and the longer you let it sit (15-30 min) the easier it will break down the tangles and allow your washday to become a breeze.

How to Prepoo

1. Dampen your hair with some water.
2. Apply your favourite natural oil and massage throughout the hair and scalp.
3. Cover your hair with a shower cap for 15-30 minutes. The longer you leave the oil in, the better the result ( I leave mine overnight!).
4. Wash

Shea Butter and Coconut Oil Mix

Technically, butters and oils are not moisturizers, but they seal in moisture. Some naturals mix their own shea butter and coconut oil mix to twist/braid their hair for twistouts and braidouts.

Ingredients: Shea Butter, Coconut Oil

Instructions:

Melt down one container of shea butter and add a cup of melted coconut oil. Mix well and let stand until it hardens. To speed up the hardening process, you can place in the fridge. You can use more or less coconut oil, depending on the consistency you would like for your mix. You can add or substitute your choice of carrier and essential oils.

Hair Types: 1/2a/2b/2c/ 3a/3b/3c/4a/4b/4c

Hair type refers to the amount of texture hair has.
Naturally straight hair is Type 1.
Loose-wavy hair is type 2
Curly hair is type 3 and coily hair is type 4.
In the case of types 3 and 4, the sub-classifications from a - c, are based upon the diameter of the curl or coil.
For instance, a type 3a curl may have the diameter of a nickel, a 3b, like a dime.
Type 4, which is the most common for people of African descent, ranges from the diameter of a pencil eraser (4a), to the diameter of an ink pen spring (4b), and even smaller than that, (type 4c).
In some cases, hair may even have a tight zigzag pattern and no coil at all.
This hair type classification system was created by renowned hairstylist and entrepreneur, Andre Walker.
