Thomas Tuchel challenges Chelsea players after win over Man City
May 9, 2021
Thomas Tuchel reminded his Chelsea players they have achieved nothing yet – despite a second morale-boosting win over Champions League final opponents Manchester City.
Having beaten City to reach the FA Cup final, Tuchel's side enhanced their top-four hopes by moving above Leicester into third place with a deserved win at the Etihad Stadium.
The victory continued Chelsea's impressive form under Tuchel, following his January appointment, but he warned his players they cannot ease off with so much still at stake.
“The challenge is to keep on going, because the job is not done in any competitions,” said Tuchel.
“Not in the Premier League, FA Cup or Champions League. We're in the middle of it and need to keep going.
Thomas Tuchel wants to keep his Chelsea side grounded
“If you want to have results like this, it's all about the players. The players have to step up and this is what they do.
“It feels like every game is a really decisive game, because in all competitions we need to fight hard to fulfil our goals and our dreams.
“I like the context of the games, that we're constantly under pressure. The team is living up to it in a very impressive way and we have to keep on going.”
This was Chelsea's second successive win over City, ahead of their meeting in the Champions League final on May 29.
Tuchel said: “Surely it’s not a disadvantage for us to have this experience, in such a short time, to beat them twice.
“It gives us the true belief that we can do it in the final, because we’ve already done it.
