Today, we visited the Abuko Mangrove Swamps to carry out a site survey. We went with our technical expert from the Forestry Department to assess and confirm whether the site is suitable for mangrove planting for our planned mangrove planting exercise on 8th February.
During the assessment, we checked important forestry and environmental factors such as soil type, water level, salinity, and natural water flow. The expert also observed the natural vegetation, root systems, and water flow in the area to determine if mangroves can grow well there.
The results of the survey were positive, and the site was confirmed to be feasible for mangrove planting. We also learned practical skills on how to identify and confirm suitable mangrove sites, including reading tidal patterns, testing soil stability, and understanding ecosystem conditions needed for healthy mangrove growth.
This visit has helped us prepare better and increase our knowledge in mangrove conservation and forestry practices.
