8th Kombo Scouts

Today, the 8th Kombo Scout Group proudly participated in the KM Scouts Beaver and Cub Scouts FAO YUNGA Ocean Challenge Badge Mangrove Planting Exercise, organized by the EcoKids Gambia.

Our Scouts joined other young people to plant mangroves and learned why they are important for protecting our oceans, coastlines, and marine life. It was a great learning experience that also helped build teamwork, responsibility, and love for the environment.

This activity contributes to SDG 13 – Climate Action, SDG 14 – Life Below Water, SDG 15 – Life on Land, and SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals.

We thank KM Scouts, the EcoKids Gambia, and everyone who made this activity possible. Together, we are helping to protect our environment and build a better future for the next generation. 🌱🌊

Yesterday, the 8th Kombo Scout Group, in partnership with the Department of Forestry, successfully carried out our Polybag Filling Activity.

We were also delighted to welcome participants from Serrekunda Central Scouts, whose support and active participation helped make the activity a success. Together, we worked as one team to fill, transport, and arrange a total of 1,570 polybags.

The activity gave our Scouts practical knowledge on how to properly fill and arrange polybags, why they are important for raising healthy tree seedlings, and the value of teamwork, discipline, cooperation, and environmental stewardship.

Together, we successfully prepared 1,570 polybags, laying the foundation for up to 1,570 future tree seedlings that will contribute to a greener and healthier environment. Every polybag prepared today is an important step towards restoring our forests and protecting our environment for future generations.

This activity contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by supporting SDG 4 – Quality Education through practical environmental learning, SDG 13 – Climate Action by promoting tree growing and environmental conservation, SDG 15 – Life on Land by supporting future reforestation and ecosystem restoration, and SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals through our collaboration with the Department of Forestry and Serrekunda Central Scouts.

We sincerely thank the Department of Forestry, Serrekunda Central Scouts, our Scout leaders, and every Scout who gave their time, energy, and commitment to make this activity successful. Together, we continue to build a greener, healthier, and more sustainable future through Scouting.

On Saturday 18th July, our Cub Scouts proudly took part in the KM Scouts Beaver and Cub Scouts Ocean Challenge Badge held at the Africell Impact Foundation in Fajara.

The training was facilitated by Eco Kids, where our young Scouts learned about the importance of protecting our oceans, keeping the environment clean, and taking care of nature. It was a fun and educational day, and our Cub Scouts really enjoyed learning new things.

We are proud of all our Cub Scouts for taking part and representing the 8th Kombo Scout Group very well. Together we keep learning, growing, and serving our community.

Strengthening Partnerships for Youth Development

Today, the 8th Kombo Scout Group had a fruitful meeting with the Latrikunda Sabiji Constituency Youth Parliamentarian, Hon. Ousainou Sawaneh.

The meeting focused on building a strong partnership to improve the lives of young people in our constituency. We had a fruitful discussion on several important areas, including good governance, youth employment, child protection, climate justice, diversity and inclusion, and other community development initiatives.

We also discussed how we can work together through shared responsibilities, mutual support, and active collaboration to achieve our common goals and create more opportunities for young people.

We sincerely thank Hon. Ousainou Sawaneh for his warm welcome, valuable time, and commitment to supporting youth development. We look forward to turning these discussions into meaningful actions that will positively impact our community.

Strengthening Partnership for Youth Development

Yesterday, the 8th Kombo Scout Group proudly signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Latrikunda Sabiji Constituency Youth Committee. This marks an important step in strengthening our relationship and working together for the development of young people and our community.

The purpose of this partnership is to improve coordination, create more opportunities for young people, and organize joint activities that will make a positive impact within the constituency.

Through this collaboration, we will work together on community service, capacity-building trainings, youth empowerment, environmental protection, good governance, child protection, climate justice, diversity and inclusion, and other initiatives that benefit our community.

This partnership is built on mutual respect, shared responsibilities, and a common vision of empowering young people to become responsible leaders and active citizens.

We sincerely thank the Latrikunda Sabiji Constituency Youth Committee for their trust and commitment. We look forward to a successful partnership that will bring lasting benefits to our community.

Together, we are stronger. Together, we can achieve more.

Last Saturday, 13th June 2026, the 8th Kombo Scout Group proudly participated in the Launching and Induction Training of the KM Scouts FAO YUNGA Ocean Challenge Badge Programme held at GOVI School and facilitated by the Gambia Maritime Administration.

A total of 17 scouts from our group took part in the programme. The training provided participants with valuable knowledge about oceans, marine conservation, environmental protection, and the important role young people can play in protecting our natural resources.

The activity was both educational and inspiring, giving our scouts the opportunity to learn new skills, share experiences, and strengthen their commitment to environmental stewardship.

We are proud of our 17 scouts for their active participation and positive representation of the group. We extend our sincere appreciation to the Kanifing Municipality Scouts, FAO YUNGA, and the Gambia Maritime Administration for organizing and facilitating this important programme.

Together, we continue to learn, serve, and take action for a better environment and a better future.

Successful Mangrove Planting Exercise! 🌿

Today, the 8th Kombo Scout Group successfully conducted our mangrove planting exercise in partnership with the Department of Forestry. We were proud to have Scouts from across the region join us, showing strong unity and commitment to protecting our environment. We also appreciate the participation of Global Platform ActionAid, whose presence added great value to the activity.

We would like to sincerely thank Global Platform ActionAid for their participation and for building a strong and cordial relationship with our group. We look forward to more collaboration in the future.

Our special thanks also go to the Department of Forestry and their Director for their continuous support from day one. Your commitment has played a key role in the success of this activity.

Together, we took action to restore our mangroves and raise awareness about the importance of protecting our wetlands. This is a big step towards building a greener and more sustainable future for our communities. 🌱
