Papua New Guinea is in big trouble. The country is running out of HIV medicine, and thousands of people could die. The medicine, called ART (antiretroviral therapy), helps HIV patients live longer. But now, the biggest global HIV fund, supported by the U.S. and UNAIDS, has stopped supplies for two weeks. This is a disaster for many patients who rely on this treatment to stay alive.

On January 20, 2025, President Donald Trump signed an executive order freezing foreign aid for 90 days. This policy aims to review and align aid programs with the "America First" agenda. As a result, funding for HIV/AIDS programs, including the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), has been suspended. This decision affects countries like Papua New Guinea, which depend on U.S. support for HIV treatment.

Medicine Will Run Out Soon

Officials from the Red Cross and the United Nations have confirmed that the current stock of ART medicine in Papua New Guinea will be exhausted by the end of Next month. Without immediate action, people living with HIV/AIDS will face severe health crises and increased mortality.

People Will Die Without Medicine

If the ART medicine runs out, HIV patients will get very sick. Their immune systems will become weak, and they will die from infections. People will die like pigs and dogs because there is no other treatment.

Without free supplies, the cost of ART medicine will go up. Only the rich will be able to buy it. Poor people, who depend on free treatment, will have no choice but to suffer and die.

Government Has No Plan

The Papua New Guinea government has no proper plan to solve this crisis. Instead of preparing for this problem, they are doing nothing. People must now be careful and protect themselves.
