“Traidisiúin láidir cheoil sa cheantar,
Pobal dílís á choinneáil beo,
Leanfaidh sé go feirceann a’bheatha,
Ceol ag giolcaireacht tríd an cheo.”
We would like to extend our heartfelt sympathies to the family of John “Twin” McNamara, who passed away yesterday.
John was a great supporter of the Dooagh Loop Walk — not only through the generous contribution from the sale of his publication Oileán m’Aislingí, but also through his invaluable input during the improvement works carried out over the years. His deep knowledge of local geography and history was second to none.
We are deeply grateful to have called him our friend. Thank you, John.
We pass on our condolences to his wife Mary, sons Eoin and Briain, grandchildren Seán, Cathal and Keila, sister Mary Teresa, daughters-in-law Catherine and Claudia, sisters-in-law Teresa, Maura, Mary and Anne, brother-in-law John Stephen, nieces, nephews and all his extended family, neighbours and friends. We also remember his son Seán at this time.
Suaimhneas síoraí dá anam.

With the closest access to a public toilet being Keem beach or Keel beach, we felt the need to provide these facilities at Dooagh beach also, the trailhead for . We are grateful to our community for their support as without them we wouldn’t be able to provide the funding along with for this facility.
We hope that they will be treated with respect and left as you would like to find them!

🌟Celebrating 10 Years of Community, Culture & Craic!🌟
This summer, the picturesque village of Dooagh on Achill Island proudly celebrates the 10th anniversary of the much-loved Dooagh Day Festival – a joyous milestone that marks a decade of tradition, togetherness, and unforgettable memories. What began as a small local celebration has grown into a vibrant annual event that draws visitors from far and wide, all eager to experience the unique charm and warm hospitality of this special corner of the Wild Atlantic Way.
Over the past ten years, Dooagh Day has become a highlight on the local calendar, bringing the whole community together to showcase the best of island life. The 2025 festival promises to be our biggest celebration yet, with a packed programme of events for all ages. Expect a lively mix of live music, Dooagh Pipe Band, Rock the Boat, local crafts, and refreshment. There’ll be children’s activities, vintage games, parades, and maybe even a surprise or two!
This anniversary year is not only a time for celebration but also for reflection – a chance to honour the volunteers, neighbours, and friends who’ve helped shape the festival over the last decade. Their spirit of generosity and community pride is what makes Dooagh Day truly special.
Whether you’re a lifelong resident, a returning visitor, or discovering Achill for the first time, we invite you to be part of this landmark occasion. Come celebrate ten years of Dooagh Day – where every wave carries a story, every tune lifts the heart, and every moment is made to be remembered.

In January 2014 a sea storm raged against the Achill coast! It stole the two benches from the top of Dooagh beach! But look who’s back!

Dooagh Loop Walk
The Dooagh Loop Walk is a beautiful, scenic and peaceful trail around the centre of the village. The road is used by walkers, runners, locals, visitors, turf cutters and farmers. The trail is a 4.3 km easy walk. It boasts magnificent views that can be enjoyed from a picnic table and two benches along the route.
A committee was formed whose objective initially was to restore the Dooagh Loop Walk road. The road had suffered from the effects of storms causing major erosion and making the road impassable.
Our ongoing aim is to repair any damage, clean the drains and maintain the road surface. These tasks don’t come for free! The annual fundraising activities contribute towards the materials required to maintain the road. But most importantly the road cannot be maintained without the volunteers.
Come have a sit and enjoy the breath-taking views and tranquillity of our village!
