I learned colour theory during my training at the Academy of Makeup London, but if I’m honest, over the last few months I’ve realised how much more there is to it.

The photo on the left is much closer to the makeup I’d normally be drawn to. Warm foundation, bronzier eyes and Charlotte Tilbury Beautiful Skin in Shade 9.

The photo on the right uses cooler, rosier tones and Estée Lauder Double Wear in Cool Bone.

Looking at them side by side, it’s mad how much difference colour choices can make. In the first photo I notice the makeup first. In the second photo I notice my eyes first, and I feel like they appear brighter, bigger and more open.

For years, if it was bronzy and warm, I wanted it 😂

It’s made me realise how important it is to work with your natural colouring rather than automatically reaching for the shades you’re most comfortable with.

The more I learn, the more I realise makeup isn’t just about application.

Which look do you prefer: Warm & Bronzy or Cool & Rosy?

Ever looked at your makeup in different mirrors and wondered why it looks completely different?

These photos were taken just minutes apart.

Same client.
Same products.
Same makeup.

The only thing that changed was the lighting.

Notice how the eyeshadow, blush and lip colour appear different depending on whether they’re photographed in natural light or studio lighting.

It’s a great reminder that lighting can completely change how makeup appears in photos, which is why I always recommend checking your makeup in natural daylight before making any judgements.

Which look do you prefer? Natural light or studio light?

My favourite lip combo atm! Such an easy combo that gives the lips a fuller look without feeling heavy or overdone 🤎

The eye roll 🤣

A few makeup tips !

Skin prep is EVERYTHING. Your makeup will only ever sit as well as the skin underneath it. Gentle cleanse, hydration serum, moisturiser suited to your skin type and let it properly absorb before makeup.

Inglot Duraline is honestly one of the best products in my makeup kit. I’m gonna do a separate video on this because there are SO many ways to use it. One of my favourite tricks is putting 2–3 drops onto a makeup palette after foundation, lightly picking it up on a fluffy brush and gently pressing it onto areas you want to make more long wearing and waterproof. You can use it on the face, lips, liners, pigments, dried products… the list is endless girls!

Don’t apply concealer right up to the lash line. Leave a tiny gap under the eye looking stops creasing

Cream products underneath powder products will always make makeup look more skin like and less cakey. So use your cream products first then set with powered products- remember less is always more!

I’ve been asked a few times what skincare products I’d recommend, so I thought I’d share some of the products I’m currently using.

The Elemis Cleansing Balm deserves a special mention. gave me a gift of it for my bday and honestly, it’s amazing. It melts makeup away, leaves your skin feeling really clean and the smell is just unreal.

I have quite oily skin, so I’ve been using The Ordinary Niacinamide and finding it really helps keep that under control. It’s known for helping with the appearance of pores, redness and uneven skin tone.

The Purito Centella Serum is one of my favourites!! It’s really soothing and hydrating.

Vitamin C great for brightness, and of finish it all off with SPF.

At night I only use The Ordinary Retinol 1% 2-3 times a wee as it’s quite strong. On the nights I’m not using retinol, I swap it for the Purito serum instead 👌🏻

TBH I’m not the best at keeping on top of my skincare, but when I do, I notice such a difference in my skin.

What’s the one skincare product you swear by?

Fresh skin, soft eyes and just enough makeup to feel polished without feeling overdone.

If your MUA isn’t doing this, I’d be asking questions 👀

Mascara wands, disposable lip applicators, decanting products onto a clean palette and sanitising products, palettes and tools with 70% IPA are all non negotiable. Tgen every brush gets a proper deep clean before it’s back in my kit.

Makeup should evolve with your skin.

I love soft glam, but the makeup I do on myself now is very different to the makeup I wore in my 20s and even my 30s.

The reality is, as we get older our skin changes, so our makeup has to change too. What worked at 20 isn’t going to work at 40

Older skin is much more about skin prep, hydration, lighter layers, less powder and more cream products. good makeup starts with good skin.

focus on getting the skin looking healthy and hydrated than piling on more foundation.

Ole bit of Botox doesn’t hurt either 👌🏻😂

One thing I wish I’d been better at when I was younger? SPF!!!
makeup in your 40s isn’t about adding more. It’s about working with your skin, not against it. Let me know if you want to know the products I use x
