What is Hive 45? We are a small business and team that work to repurpose beeswax from our colonies to make balms and wax melts. Follow along if you are interested in facts about bees and beekeeping whilst seeing some of the products we make! 🐝🍯

Bees always keep you on your toes 🐝. In the cells (hexagons) the queen has already started laying. It is extremely early in the year for this to be happening🗓️. This is one of the effects of warmer winters - higher temperatures🌡️ lead the bees to believe it is spring and they change from thermoregulation to rearing young. If there is a cold snap ❄️ these colonies may perish 🪦 as they would have used their limited resources to feed young as opposed to staying warm🧣.

Things to spot 🔍:
Eggs - small white line in the bottom of the cell
Larvae - white "C" shaped and shiny in the cells
Pupae- purple-eyed, white bee
Queen - blue marking

The cinnamon lip balm was perfect today whilst snowshoeing 🎿 giving us warming cosy feeling, locally known as gemütlich 🧣🧤
