Pigmentation and texture respond well to peels. Scarring and deeper textural change respond well to microneedling.
Sometimes the answer is both, over time.
What it's almost never is a quick fix. Most people start seeing real results after multiple sessions, not after one, and any clinic promising otherwise is selling you something.
We'd rather set the expectation properly at consultation than have you disappointed after session one.

Yes, there's downtime with a chemical peel. One to six days, and here's what it actually looks like.

A peel removes the top layer of your skin in the most effective and safe way we can, clearing out dead skin cells. Then you go through a few days of shedding while healthier skin comes through underneath.

Are you housebound? Not one bit. But it isn't a zero-downtime treatment and I won't pretend it is. Think a light sunburn-style peel, not the extreme ones you see online. We don't use those.

It works especially well for texture and congestion. I get texture through my T-zone myself and it's made a big difference to how smooth my skin is. Active breakouts respond well too.

One won't do it. Three minimum, roughly once a month, same as microneedling. It's the gym rule, the results come from repeating it.

Non-negotiable: sunscreen. If you're not willing to wear it, I'll turn the treatment down. That's not me being difficult, that's me protecting your skin.

"Which one should I get?" I genuinely can't answer that until I've seen your skin.

That's not me dodging the question, it's the honest answer. It depends on your texture, and on whether we're trying to boost collagen or clear the build-up of cells sitting on the surface causing the problem.

Roughly how I'd approach the three most common concerns:

Active breakouts, peels first. I don't want to microneedle over active congestion and spread what's underneath. Usually around three peels, then microneedling later if scarring is left behind.

Scarring, microneedling is where you'll see the change. Three to six sessions, once the skin has fully healed.

Hyperpigmentation, peels first to target it directly, microneedling after to rebuild collagen and hold the result.

They work well together. The order is what matters.

Peels vs microneedling, save this for the next time someone tells you they're the same thing.

Chemical peel: removes the top layer of skin to reveal fresher, brighter skin underneath. Best suited to pigmentation, dullness, congestion and surface texture.

Microneedling: creates tiny, controlled micro-injuries to trigger your skin's own collagen response. Best suited to scarring, deeper textural change and laxity.

They're not competitors. Plenty of skins do best on a course of one, then the other, and some do best on both, spaced properly.

What we won't do is pick for you before we've seen your skin.

Chemical peels and microneedling get confused constantly. They both sit under advanced skin treatments, but they do genuinely different jobs.

A peel works top down. It removes the top layer of skin so fresher, brighter skin can come through.

Microneedling works bottom up. It creates a controlled micro-injury in the skin, which triggers your own collagen response.

Same category. Opposite mechanisms.

Which is why "which one is better" is the wrong question. The right one is which your skin actually needs right now, and that's a two-minute conversation at consultation.
