On 22 September 2018, L/Nk Singh was the leading scout of the Special Forces squad which was carrying out search operation to locate and neutralize an infiltrated group of hardcore foreign terrorists at an altitude of 12,500 feet in Jammu & Kashmir.

The rocky nature of the terrain and lack of vegetation made the conduct of operation extremely difficult.

Realising the imminent danger to his squad members, L/Nk Singh displaying field craft of an exceptional order closed in on the terrorists and neutralized one terrorist at very close range with accurate rifle fire.

One of the remaining terrorists lobbed a gr***de at L/Nk Singh injuring him severely. Thereafter, the terrorists started engaging the rest of the squad with effective fire.

L/Nk Singh in a daring act crawled close towards the other two terrorists and engaged them, during which he was once again hit by terrorists' fire which led to his rifle falling into a nearby gorge.

terrorists' fire, the rest of the squad quickly moved on to a position of advantage and engaged the terrorists effectively. L/Nk Singh while in hand to

One Nation, One Election: A Step Towards Political and Economic Efficiency

India is on the verge of witnessing a significant political reform with the introduction of the "One Nation, One Election" proposal. Recently cleared by the Union Cabinet, this reform aims to synchronize elections for the Lok Sabha and state assemblies, ensuring that voters cast their ballots simultaneously.

The potential benefits of this move are numerous. Firstly, it could reduce the financial burden on the exchequer, as conducting elections is an expensive affair. Additionally, frequent elections often lead to a disruption in governance, with governments in campaign mode, diverting their focus from policymaking to vote-gathering. A unified electoral cycle could provide stability, allowing elected representatives to concentrate on long-term governance without the distraction of constant elections.

However, this proposal also presents logistical challenges, particularly around the need for constitutional amendments and ensuring the alignment of the election dates for state assemblies. Additionally, concerns about the impact on federalism and local issues getting overshadowed by national ones have been raised by critics.

As India moves forward with this reform, it will be essential to address these challenges while leveraging the potential benefits of political stability and economic efficiency. The "One Nation, One Election" proposal is not just a political move, but a transformative step that could shape the future of India's democratic process.

After Chandipura Virus Deaths in Gujarat, Maharashtra Health Department Issues Guidelines

In response to the recent Chandipura virus-related deaths in Gujarat, the Maharashtra Public Health Department has released new guidelines to manage and prevent the spread of the virus.

These guidelines emphasize the immediate referral of children under 15 who exhibit symptoms to the nearest health facilities. The advisory, issued by Joint Director of Health Services Dr. Radhakishan Pawar, targets municipal corporations, zilla parishads, civil surgeons, district health officers, and malaria officers. Dr. Pawar, who leads the state's vector-borne disease control program, highlighted the urgency of referring patients with symptoms such as sudden fever, behavioral changes, convulsions, or fainting to primary health centers, rural hospitals, or district hospitals. He also stressed the importance of testing blood samples for dengue, Japanese Encephalitis (JE), and Chandipura virus to ensure accurate diagnoses.

There has been a notable increase in Chandipura virus cases, especially in villages identified as sensitive to the outbreak. The virus, spread by the female phlebotomine sandfly, is particularly prevalent during the early monsoon season and causes encephalitis, an inflammation of brain tissue that requires immediate medical attention.

To control the virus, the health department has implemented several measures, including regular insecticide spraying in households and livestock areas to reduce the sandfly population. Dr. Pawar also mentioned that neurological deficits are common in Chandipura infection, manifesting as weakness, loss of coordination, and other motor function impairments. These deficits can be long-lasting and may require extensive rehabilitation. Symptoms of meningeal irritation, such as a stiff neck, headache, and sensitivity to light, are also frequent, indicating inflammation of the protective membranes covering the brain and spinal cord.

Public awareness and prevention efforts are focused on educating the community about maintaining cleanliness, using mosquito nets, and avoiding stagnant water around homes to reduce the risk of infection.

-Final Preview: Eye Revenge Against Defending Champions

India versus England in the Menโ€™s T20 World Cup semi-final is set to be a historic showdown. The last semi-final encounter between these two teams was just 19 months ago in Adelaide, where a dominant opening partnership between Jos Buttler and Alex Hales led England to a convincing victory, prompting a strategic overhaul in India's T20 approach.

This time, India enters the semi-final with more batting firepower, versatile middle-order options, and a varied attack. However, defeating the defending champions will be no easy task, especially with Buttler and his new opening partner Phil Salt in exceptional form.

England stands on the brink of becoming the first men's team to retain a T20 World Cup. On the other hand, India, having not won this tournament since its inception in 2007, is seeking its first World Cup victory in any format since 2011.

The
The Guyana National Stadium, with a capacity of 20,000, is located on the outskirts of Georgetown near the Demerara River and a few kilometers from the coast. This semi-final will be the sixth and final game held at this venue during the tournament. Spinners have been effective here, but the pitch has also offered assistance to quick bowlers, with the highest score being Afghanistan's 183/5 against Uganda.

How They Got
India has dominated their matches, with the only points dropped due to an abandoned game against Canada in a rain-soaked Lauderhill. Victories over Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Australia secured their spot in the knockout stages as the winners of Group 1 in the Super Eight.

England's journey has been more challenging. After a rained-off match against Scotland and an early loss to Australia, they needed significant wins and external favors to reach the Super Eights. They managed to qualify ahead of Scotland on Net Run Rate. In the Super Eight, a loss to South Africa put them under pressure, but a crucial win against hosts West Indies and a decisive victory over the USA ensured their semi-final spot, finishing second in their group.

The
India Squad: Rohit Sharma (c), Hardik Pandya, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant, Sanju Samson, Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohd. Siraj.

England Squad: Jos Buttler (c), Moeen Ali, Jofra Archer, Jonathan Bairstow, Harry Brook, Sam Curran, Ben Duckett, Tom Hartley, Will Jacks, Chris Jordan, Liam Livingstone, Adil Rashid, Phil Salt, Reece Topley, Mark Wood.

In a recent development that has stirred the tech community, Google's decision to delist several Indian apps from its Play Store has sparked controversy and concern. This move, over a dispute regarding service fee payments, has caught the attention of the Indian government, particularly IT and Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.

Minister Vaishnaw has taken a strong stance, emphasizing that the delisting of Indian apps cannot be permitted. In an interview, he underscored the critical role of the startup ecosystem in India's economy, stating that their fate cannot be left to the discretion of big tech companies like Google.

The government's response is not merely rhetorical; actions are underway to address the issue. Minister Vaishnaw has called for a meeting with Google and the affected app developers to resolve the dispute. This proactive approach highlights the government's commitment to protecting the interests of Indian startups.

India's burgeoning startup ecosystem, comprising over one lakh startups and more than 100 unicorns, is a testament to the nation's entrepreneurial spirit. Minister Vaishnaw emphasized the need to harness this energy and talent, ensuring that it is not stifled by the policies of multinational corporations.

The dispute revolves around Google's imposition of a fee on in-app payments, following an order from the Competition Commission of India (CCI) to revise its fee structure. Google's decision to delist apps that did not comply with these payment policies has sparked outrage among app developers and startup founders.

While some have criticized Google's actions as monopolistic and unfair, others have called for strategic responses, advocating for the establishment of a Digital Public Infrastructure akin to UPI and ONDC.

The Indian government's intervention in this matter is crucial to safeguarding the interests of domestic startups and promoting a fair and competitive environment in the tech industry. Minister Vaishnaw's firm stance sends a clear message that India will not tolerate any actions that jeopardize the growth and success of its startup ecosystem.

As discussions between the government, Google, and app developers ensue, it is imperative to find a resolution that upholds the principles of fairness, innovation, and inclusivity. The outcome of these deliberations will not only shape the future of app distribution in India but also set precedents for global tech policies.
