Remember New Year’s Eve 2019?
As the clock struck midnight and a lot of us toasted 2020 with warm champagne, excited about the year ahead: an overseas holiday, a new job, a university course, a wedding, elective surgery, getting your driver’s license. Whatever you planned probably hasn’t happened.

Instead the year #2020 – so far – has been full of completely whacky experiences: toilet paper panic buying, social distancing, lockdowns, hotel quarantines, washing and sanitising your groceries, elbow-bump greetings, and unending Zoom calls.

While the world celebrates , there’s something really wrong and unfair and distasteful going on in the country right in front of a zillion eyes and million dead brains.
What we are witnessing at the moment is nothing but a very obvious reaction of a deeply dysfunctional society, a one that reeks of deep-rooted patriarchy and blatant misogyny. In this society, a woman is blamed for almost everything that happens to a man she is closely associated with.
A hundred men shoving their mics and cameras almost violating her space, her body. Why? Because it’s all acceptable and watching this on is fun for a lot of Indians.

Finally, Indians have got their main villains of their perfect country. A country where female strength is revered in the Kali and Shakti cults. Yet women in India face hell on a daily basis.
