If you’re choosing an exfoliating acid based on what you actually want to treat, the difference matters.
Glycolic acid is an AHA that works mainly on the skin’s surface, helping with uneven tone, dullness and the appearance of post-acne marks over time.
Salicylic acid is a BHA that gets into pores, making it especially useful if your dark spots are being left behind by active acne, clogged pores or breakouts.
So if dark spots + uneven tone are your main concern, glycolic may be the better fit. If you’re dealing with breakouts+ the marks they leave behind, salicylic can make more sense.
And whichever you choose: don’t skip SUNSCREEN. UV exposure can keep pigmentation around for longer, while over-exfoliating can irritate your skin and make things worse.
