In 1909, in Belfast, Ireland, construction began on what was called the world’s largest and most luxurious ship: the RMS Titanic. Built by the White Star Line, the Titanic stretched over 882 feet—an engineering marvel of its time.

On April 10th, 1912, the Titanic set sail on its maiden voyage from Southampton to New York. It carried over 2,200 passengers and crew, including some of the wealthiest people in the world, as well as hundreds seeking a new life in America.

Four days into the journey, on the night of April 14th, the Titanic struck an iceberg in the North Atlantic. Despite its reputation as “unsinkable,” the ship’s hull was fatally damaged. Within less than three hours, the Titanic sank beneath the ocean.

Over 1,500 lives were lost, making it one of the deadliest maritime disasters in history. The tragedy led to major changes in global maritime safety, ensuring such a disaster would never happen again.

Today, the Titanic remains a powerful symbol of human ambition—and human vulnerability.
