National Port Authority of Liberia Managing Director pays a working visit to the National Port Authority in Lagos, Nigeria. praised the level of operational efficiency and Port modernization.

Lagos-Nigeria-The Managing Director of the National Port Authority of Liberia, Hon. Sekou A. M. Dukuly, has lauded the National Port Authority of Nigeria for the level of investment being made in its port infrastructure and the shift in global trade towards Nigeria. Hon. Dukuly said the renewed commitment to positioning Nigeria as a key player in the global maritime sector. The NPA managing Director was speaking recently when he paid a working visit to the National Port Authority in Lagos, Nigeria.

Hon. Dukuly emphasized the importance of ports across West Africa are crucial for both domestic and foreign trade, and with the evolving landscape of global commerce, effective port operations are becoming more important. He pointed out that Port infrastructure development, streamlining of processes, and new technologies should be prioritized to improve Africa's trade efficiency and global competitiveness.

Receiving the NPA Managing Director and delegation, the Managing Director of the National Port Authority of Nigeria Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho welcomed Hon. Dukuly and delegation to the Nigerian Port Authority, adding Port operations are crucial for Africa's economic integration and trade development. Hon. Dantsoho said` the primary gateways for the continent's exports and imports, are facilitating the movement of goods and services.
Hon. Dantsoho said port infrastructure development in West Africa is driven by rapid population growth, urbanization, and the need to support economic diversification. He said the continuous modernization of ports is necessary to improve trade efficiency and global competitiveness, addressing challenges like congestion and aging infrastructure.

The National Port Authority (NPA) has berthed the largest container vessel in Liberia's history brought in the country by CMA CGN Springs.

Monrovia, Liberia-The CMA CGM Springs, measuring about 238.7 meters and carrying approximately 43,000 metric tons of cargo and 3,000 containers, was discharged in two days at nearly 60 moves per hour under the oversight of NPA Managing Director Sekou A. M. Dukuly. The vessel's quick turnaround time was the fastest for a ship of its size at the port, indicating improved efficiency and pilot capacity.

Speaking to reporters during a tour of the ship, NPA Managing Director Sekou A. M. Dukuly informed journalists that the ship was berthed at the port by a Liberian marine pilot emphasizing the dedication and capacity of NPA staff.

Hon. Dukuly said from 2024, container trade has risen from 24% to over 40%, in early 2026 reflecting broader economic growth of 5% to 6%.
The NPA Managing Director stressed that the progress of the port so far is due to the strategic reposition of the sector and the national economy. He said upcoming plans at the Freeport of Monrovia include dredging to restore its 15-meter designed depth, which is currently reduced to about 11 meters due to sand buildup.

Meanwhile, Hon. Dukuly has stressed the need to increase exports of rubber, agriculture, and timber to balance the country's trade, and emphasized continued investment in staff capacity building initiatives.

Hon Sekou A. M. Dukuly bags another award from the Women in Maritime for West and Central Africa, as Liberia’s ports infrastructure improve.

Monrovia, Liberia-The Managing Director of the National Port Authority Hon. Sekou A.M. Dukuly has received an extra-ordinary Award for what the Women in Maritime for West and Central Africa described as revolutionary reforms and measurable national impact within the maritime sector.

The Award was presented to Hon. Dukuly at this year’s 2026 program marking the celebration of International Day for Women in Maritime organized by Women in Maritime for West and Central Africa (WIMOWCA) Liberia Chapter, on the theme global theme, “From Policy to Practice: Advancing Gender Equality for Maritime Excellence,” and the national theme, “Empowering Liberian Women to Navigate Maritime Excellence, “ held at the Monrovia city Hall in collaboration with the National Port Authority (NPA), Liberia Maritime Authority (LiMA), National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NAFAA), Liberia International Ship and Corporate Registry (LISCR), National Oil Company of Liberia (NOCAL), and other partners.

Making the presentation, the President of Women in Maritime for West and Central Africa (WIMOWCA), Mrs. Olivia Johnson said Hon Dukuly’s unwavering commitment to transforming Liberia’s maritime sector into a beacon of efficiency, transparency, and international relevance is a testament of his leadership and hard work over the past years.

Mrs. Johnson emphasized that Hon. Dukuly’s willingness to provide opportunity to over Fifteen female staff members of the NPA to participated in a specialized training under the Port Management Association of West and Central Africa at the Autonomous Port of Abidjan and place many in senior leadership roles, underscored his commitment to gender inclusivity and professional development.

It’s becoming too easy to turn every national issue into political noise instead of focusing on facts.

The National Port Authority is a public institution meant to serve the Liberian people. If it engages in programs that support communities or national causes, the real question should be: what is the outcome and who benefits? Not every initiative has to pass through the narrow lens of political loyalty before it is considered valid.

Also, let’s be clear—raising concerns is important, but framing them with sarcasm and half-statements doesn’t strengthen accountability. It weakens it. If there is evidence of misuse or misdirection, bring it forward clearly. That’s how responsible civic engagement works.

We cannot keep discouraging institutions from acting simply because their actions don’t align with certain narratives. Development requires participation, flexibility, and sometimes new approaches.

Liberia deserves better than constant politicization of every effort. Let’s hold leaders accountable, but let’s also be fair, objective, and focused on real progress—not just scoring political points.
