It’s the Pirts Gariņš - the little spirit of the Latvian sauna. 🌿
In traditional Latvian culture, the sauna - pirts - was much more than a place to wash or get warm.
It was considered a special, almost sacred space - a place where you could leave the noise of everyday life behind and reconnect with yourself and nature. Latvian folklore is full of the idea that places, nature and the elements can have their own spirits and presence.
And the Pirts Gariņš is imagined as the spirit and guardian of the sauna — watching over the sauna, the pirtsmīlis (the person receiving the ritual), and the energy of the space.
He is said to feel at home among fire, steam, herbs, warmth and respectful intentions. 🔥🌿
