But who is Rodianne’s stereotypical customer? “We cater for each and every client who walks through our door, be they teens in the first throes of experimenting with new colours and cuts, young mums who are pressed for time and their goal is having a practical hairstyle they can manage themselves, hairstyling for big events, mature ladies who are perhaps more conservative in their taste and of course a good number of male clients. This is perhaps why I still have people coming here who were my first ever customers fifteen years ago. We practically grew up together and I have adapted their styling technique to whatever time of their life they just so happen to be. I always try to be upfront with them and wouldn’t dream of doing something that might damage their hair, no matter how hard they insist. Having a solid work ethic and a good reputation for me is the most invaluable asset anyone in our profession can have. If something will not work for my client, he or she’ll be the first to know, even if at times they won’t want to hear it. Having said that, I know just how worrying certain problems can be, which is why we offer special treatments, for example, against frizz, which due to our humid climate is a major concern (a.k.a. Brazilian treatment), and hair loss” she tells me. Opening up shop at such a young age is obviously a huge undertaking but Rodianne, perhaps due to her intrinsic sunny disposition takes it all in her stride, “It is a huge investment; of time, money and emotions but this is what I’ve always wanted to do. Even if it involves some gut wrenching moments and endless hard work, I am thankful for where I am now. Most of all, I am grateful for the unstinting support of my family and boyfriend Chris, who despite the trials and tribulations have unquestioningly stood by me. Of course, my loyal clients are ultimately the secret of a successful ‘Innovations by Ro.’,” she ends with a smile.

15 rules every blonde should know:
1. Use shampoo designed for coloured or blonde hair.
2. Avoid washing your hair every day.
3. Wash with lukewarm, not very hot, water.
4. Don’t overuse purple shampoo.
