🇲🇺🎉 A HISTORIC WIN FOR FAMILIES IN MAURITIUS

Today marks a landmark moment in the history of maternal, child and family health in our country.

The Budget 2026–2027 has announced:

🤱 6 months of fully paid maternity leave
🤱 An additional 6 months at half pay
👨‍👧 6 weeks of paid paternity leave

For many years, health professionals, breastfeeding advocates, women's groups, trade unions, civil society organisations and policy makers have advocated for stronger maternity protection and greater support for families.

What was once considered an aspiration has now become a reality.

This reform goes beyond labour rights. It is an investment in:

✅ Maternal health
✅ Child health and development
✅ Breastfeeding and nutrition
✅ Mental wellbeing
✅ Father involvement
✅ Gender equality
✅ Stronger families and communities

It recognizes that raising children is a shared responsibility and that supporting parents during the earliest months of life yields lifelong benefits for children and society.

This historic announcement demonstrates that sustained advocacy, evidence-informed policies and collective commitment can bring about transformative change.

A victory for mothers.
A victory for fathers.
A victory for children.
A victory for families.
A victory for Mauritius. 🇲🇺❤️
