Villa Poema de Amor

May you be experiencing a peaceful and safe International Mermaid Day today! This photo was taken a little over a month ago on my Birthday. Outfit, a birthday gift from my dear sister, Bryn! How the whole world has changed in that one month!
I hope you are finding some of the simple joys in these times of "sheltering in place" and experiencing the wisdom of mermaids...swim deep, listen carefully to the currents and savor the silence at sea floor.

Tree Trunks & Bird Wings

How did I find you, God,
Without icons, scriptures,
And other holy maps?
You arrived mysteriously
In tree trunks and bird wings.
I called you poetry
And began to translate.
That is when silence
Became music
And solitude,
Company.

The soul will have nothing
To do with being quieted
By the mind's logical chatter
Or the body's busyness.

If the soul hungers,
Stop,

WATER TABLE
Like a woman once frozen in winter
Now melting into springs' pure drinking water,
I am reminded that what we have in common
Never dries up.
Isolation is our forgetting
Truth is our return.

Running deep and faithfully
At all times
Is a water table of love.

Sweet Conspiracy

What if your best lines of poetr,
Written overlooking the sea
On peaceful days,
Depended on this exhausting,
And frightening passage…

Would you fight it
Or thank it?

IT MUST BE

…It must be
we are waiting
for the perfect moment.

It must be
under all the struggle
we want to go on.

It must be,
that deep down,
we are creatures
getting ready
for when we are needed.

It must be that waiting
for the listening ear
or the appreciative word,
for the right
woman or the right man
or the right moment
just to ourselves,

we are getting ready
just to be ready

and nothing else.

Like this moment
just before the guests arrive
working
alone in the kitchen
sensing a deep
down symmetry
in every blessed thing.

The way
that everything
unbeknownst
to us
is preparing
to meet us too.

Just on the other
side of the door
someone
is about to knock
and our life
is just
about to change

and finally
after all these
years rehearsing,
behind
the curtain,

we might
just be
ready
to go on.
