I am Mariette Justine and I hail from the land below the wind which is Penampang, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. I am in fact a Sino-Kadazan mix with Indonesia and Philippino blood (from my grandfather's side). Born in November 24 and I am a Sagittarian with Yellow personality. I am the second of 4 siblings and the only daughter. I am a mum of a teenage son who is now 14 years old. Currently working in one of the financial institution with the length of service 18 years specifically focusing on commercial/business loans. Never would I ever thought I would be serving for 18 years but there are still so much to learn despite I have been working that long. The one thing that I kept me going is to take any challenges that come my way with one step at a time. Stress is every where no matter what profession are we in. The most important thing is how we manage them. I can come home to a space which I can unwind with the scent pure essential oils filling up the space. I feel blessed! When my son was 7 years old and enrolled in primary school, I discovered that he has ADHD after he went through a series of diagnosis tests. As a mum, I felt helpless at first. Not knowing how to handle a special need child. I was not equipped with the knowledge and the things I should be aware of especially when the tantrum hits him. In the midst of all that with issues he was facing at school being bullied and not knowing well how to handle it well, he was labelled as the naughty kid who does not know how to sit still during the lesson. It has been a long journey for both of us and my son is the reason why I am on this wellness journey. I needed a natural alternative to help him manage his emotion and overall health. Wellness is not limited to physical wellness. It covers mental and emotion. My son is currently homeschooled online with much lesser students in the class and I really grateful that the teachers in the school and his tuition teachers are so very supportive. He has been progressing well which I am so proud of. There are still room for improvement and with guidance, he will definitely going to improve further. I learnt a lot from this journey that I embarked since 2017 and I am so grateful to see that a lot of my friends and family decided be on board on this journey with me. I am also grateful that I get to know new friends in the community and be acquainted with them. In this page, apart from sharing my son's journey, you will get to see me sharing about the wellness lifestyle and ultimate goal is to help more people in terms of their health and wellness based on my experience. I am not a certified aromatherapist nor a doctor. I am just a regular mum who came to know about natural alternative to a better lifestyle choices to improve our holistic wellness. Knowledge can be attained if we are open and willing to listen. Making healthier choices is not only about choosing the food and exercising but choosing what goes into your blood stream. Sometimes we do not know what we do not know and if you are open and be willing to try, it is a good start. I will be here to guide to anyone who would want to embark on the wellness journey. So blessed that we have a community to support one another and learn together. It is never too late to start.

My staple oil and my first aid kit - naturally.
If there is one oil that I must have at home for everything, that got to be Lavender.
I got to admit, having this essential oil in my home is such a blessing in so many ways. It is my staple oil just like for us Malaysian, rice is our staple food. Well maybe for some it is not.
Due to my son's sensory overload, he uses this oil alongside with other oils as his natural first aid kit. The first thing he would ask would be essential oil. He knows how it has helped him and how amazed he was when it worked. Oh yes, it does.
In our community, this oil is often referred to as the Swiss Army Knife of Oils. Just like the iconic red pocket tool, Lavender essential oil is incredibly versatile and your go-to for almost any situation.
I cannot be out of Lavender and Melaleuca Alternifolia (or commonly known as the Tea Tree Oil) is also another oil I need to keep at home. The Tea Tree Oil is known for its purifying properties and great to be paired with Lavender.

Today being the highlight of the month of May and closing of the Harvest Festival (Kaamatan) celebrated at state level in Sabah I would like to take this opportunity to wish my family and friends who are celebrating , Kotobian Tadau Tagazo Do Kaamatan kumaa Saviavi.
To those who don't already know, it is a major annual celebration held in Sabah to give thanks for a bountiful rice harvest and honor the spirit of the rice which is observed by the Kadazan, Dusun, Murut, Rungus, Lundayeh and Sino-Native ethnic groups as a commeration for the sacrifice of Huminodun towards her community.
The visit to the Kadazan Dusun Cultural Association (KDCA) is a must towards the month of May and especially on 30th and 31st of May as there are various of crafts and cultural exhibited throughout the celebrations at the KDCA.
I know it is a day of gathering or aramaiti, however, do drink responsibly everyone and stay safe.
It is customary to stay up until midnight after the reunion dinner.. At least for our family.
Firecrackers and fireworks are set off at the stroke of midnight to scare away evil spirits and celebrate the coming of the new year.
Today, lighting firecrackers and fireworks is a major custom to celebrate the coming of the New Year, and also a way to enhance the festive ATMOSPHERE. The red paper is left around (for at least a day) after letting off firecrackers, so as not to "sweep away good luck".

Winter Solstice Festival, also known as Dongzhi Festival falls between Dec 21 - 23 every year. This year it is celebrated on Dec 21.
On this day, the Northern hemisphere have the shortest day and the longest night. This day also informally known as "everyone's birthday", as it is the first day of a new solar term and everyone becomes a year older.
While traditions and customs vary in different areas, in Malaysia it is celebrated with family coming together as a family and enjoying a winter Solstice delicacy - tang yuan. It is a glutinous rice ball with a variety of sweet fillings such as black sesame, peanuts or red bean. These glutinous rice balls are boiled and then served with a sweet ginger syrup.
Some prefer to make tang yuan from scratch but you can also find ready-made tang yuan in the frozen section of the supermarket. It will save you tons of time!

It is a season of gifting this month. When it comes to finding something as an exchanged gift, sometimes I find it is hard to find the suitable one. I don't know about you, but personally I love practical gift irregardless of the price. After all, it is from the heart.
