Who Inspired me?
Albert Einstein
Albert Einstein, a theoretical physicist, author and a teacher was
known for his contributions to the field of general and special
relativity. He was also known for his mass-energy equation which was
dubbed as the βmost famous equationβ that gave birth to the atom
bomb. His work on the general theory of relativity was published in
1915 and is still regarded as the most significant concept that was
developed in modern-day physics. He was rewarded the Nobel Prize
in Physics in 1921 due to his outstanding work. He is surely one the
Best Teachers In The World.
The amygdala is a small , almond - shaped part of the brain located
in the temporal lobe that plays a critical role in processing
emotions , especially fear , and forming memories .
As a key component of the limbic system, it is responsible for
survival instincts, such as the "fight-or-flight" response to stress,
and also contributes to other emotional responses and social
behaviors.
Location and structure
It is a paired structure, with one located in each
hemisphere of the brain.
It's located deep within the temporal lobes, just in front
of the hippocampus.
The amygdala consists of approximately 13 nuclei,
grouped into major divisions like the basolateral
complex and the central nucleus.
Functions
Emotional processing :
It is heavily involved in recognizing and experiencing emotions,
particularly fear, anxiety, and aggression.
Fight-or-flight response:
It triggers the body's stress response to danger by releasing
hormones that increase heart rate, blood pressure, and energy
mobilization.
Memory formation :
It plays a role in linking emotions to memories, helping you
remember and learn from experiences, especially those that are
frightening or rewarding.
Social and decision-making :
It influences social behavior and decision-making processes.
Impact of damage and dysfunction
Damage to the amygdala can impair emotional
responses, decision-making, and impulse control.
It can be damaged by conditions such as stroke,
infections (like the herpes simplex virus), brain tumors,
or traumatic brain injury.
Problems with the amygdala are implicated in several
mental illnesses and can be associated with conditions
like post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), especially
after traumatic experiences.
