Today, The family of ADA SAMUEL who hail from Agatu is passing through unimaginable pain.

ADA SAMUEL our brother left home to work in Nasarawa State in a Chinese company named AVATAR in search of a better life, but he never returned.

According to our one of brother who witnessed the incident.
It all began with a disagreement between a woman and a man who allegedly owed her money. The argument escalated, and the man reportedly involved a Nigerian Army soldier. Both parties were called before the soldier.
We were there while the disagreement continued, the witness who happened to be the niece of the victim, said the victim Mr ADAH SAMUEL who was only a neighbor to the woman, tried to calm the situation. He reportedly suggested that, since the woman was married, the matter should be reported to her husband instead of allowing the confrontation to continue.
According to the witness, the soldier responded by slapping Mr ADAH SAMUEL . Moments later, as the argument continued, the soldier allegedly fired his weapon. The first shot did not fatally strike my uncle ADAH SAMUEL, but more shots were fired, and he was seriously wounded.
The witness said that people pleaded to take him to the hospital immediately, but they were prevented from doing so for some time. By the time he was finally taken for medical treatment, he died eventually.
As a witness, I say I recorded part of the incident on my phone, but I was allegedly forced by the soldier to delete the videos and photographs. Thankfully, I had already sent some of the images to friends before they were deleted.
My uncle was not a criminal my uncle was only trying to make peace. He was a hardworking young man trying to earn an honest living. Today, our family has been left with grief, unanswered questions, and a painful loss that can never be replaced.
We are not asking for revenge. We are asking for justice, accountability, and a transparent, independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding my brother's death. No family should lose a loved one in this manner.
We appeal to the Nigerian authorities, human rights organizations, civil society groups, the media, and every person who believes in justice to ensure that this case is thoroughly investigated and that anyone found responsible is held accountable under the law.
My uncle's life mattered. His death must not be ignored.

Tinubu approves 30–80% salary increase for 250,000 Military personnel

President Bola Tinubu has approved salary increases ranging from 30 to 80 per cent for personnel of the Nigerian Armed Forces.

The new pay package, which takes effect from September 1, 2026, is expected to benefit about 250,000 military personnel.

A statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said the adjustment was structured according to rank, with junior personnel receiving the highest percentage increase.

Under the new arrangement, officers above the rank of Colonel, including Brigadier-Generals, Major-Generals, Lieutenant-Generals, and Generals, will receive a 30 per cent salary increase.

Personnel from the rank of Colonel down to Warrant Officer will get a 50 per cent increase, while those from Private to Staff Sergeant will receive an 80 per cent increment.

The statement said the new salary structure would raise the annual wage bill of the Armed Forces from N660 billion to N924 billion.

According to Onanuga, the salary adjustment reflects President Tinubu’s appreciation of the sacrifices made by military personnel in confronting banditry, kidnapping, and terrorism across parts of the country.

“The men and women who help to keep us safe in our homes must be supported and appreciated in the course of their duties to our nation,” the President said.

COAS PLEDGES DEEPER NIGERIA–BURUNDI MILITARY TIES TO STRENGTHEN REGIONAL SECURITY

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Army's commitment to expanding strategic defence cooperation with the Republic of Burundi as part of sustained efforts to strengthen regional peace, improve military professionalism and enhance Africa's collective response to terrorism and other transnational security threats.

The COAS gave the assurance on Thursday, 6 August 2026, while receiving the Ambassador of the Republic of Burundi to Nigeria, His Excellency Edouard Nduwimana, during a courtesy visit to the Army Headquarters, Abuja.

Welcoming the Ambassador and his delegation, Lieutenant General Shaibu described Nigeria and Burundi as long-standing partners bound by shared African values, mutual respect and a common commitment to continental peace and security. He noted that the Nigerian Army remains committed to broadening military cooperation through enhanced training opportunities, institutional capacity development, personnel exchange programmes and strategic exposure visits aimed at improving the operational capabilities of both armed forces.

The COAS emphasised that sustained collaboration in military education, operational experience sharing and regional security initiatives remains indispensable in addressing terrorism, violent extremism and other emerging cross-border security challenges. He also commended the progress recorded by Burundi in advancing peace, stability and national reconciliation, stressing the importance of maintaining regular military engagements and strategic communication to further strengthen bilateral relations and mutual confidence.

In his remarks, Ambassador Edouard Nduwimana conveyed the goodwill of the President of the Republic of Burundi, General Évariste Ndayishimiye and lauded the Nigerian Army for its professionalism, operational successes and invaluable contributions to regional peace, counter-terrorism efforts and security across Africa.

The Ambassador appealed for greater access for Burundian military personnel to Nigerian military institutions through scholarships, specialised training and other capacity-building programmes. He also advocated expanded instructor exchange initiatives, joint military exercises and closer collaboration in peace support operations and counter-terrorism, describing them as essential to further consolidating the longstanding friendship and defence cooperation between both countries.

OPERATION HADIN KAI IDENTIFY WANTED SENIOR ISWAP/ISIS TERRORIST LEADERS OPERATING AROUND THE LAKE CHAD BASIN

Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have recorded another significant breakthrough following recent successful offensive operations against ISWAP/ISIS terrorists in the Lake Chad region of Northern Borno State.

During the operations, troops recovered several technical devices and other high-value intelligence materials, including a camcorder used by ISWAP terrorists to record propaganda videos and document operational activities. Subsequent forensic exploitation of the recovered devices generated actionable intelligence, leading to the identification of locations associated with terrorist activities as well as identities of several senior ISWAP leaders operating within the Mangari–Metele–Dogon Chukun axis along the fringes of the Lake Chad Basin in Abadam and Kukawa Local Government Areas of Borno State. The identified terrorists leaders and key operatives include; Abu Musa Al-Mangawi Baa Shuwa – Wali (Governor of ISIS West Africa Province), his Deputy/Amirul Jaish Muhammad Jidda (“The One-Handed Man”) and Hamad Abu Hanifa the Amirul-Fiya of ISWAP among others.

Operation HADIN KAI wishes to specifically draw the attention of the public to Abu Musa Al-Mangawi Baa Shuwa, the ISWAP Wali, who remains the most wanted terrorist leader operating within the Lake Chad Basin. The military will offer a substantial financial reward to any individual whose credible and actionable information directly leads to his arrest. All information received will be treated with the utmost confidentiality, and the identity of informants will be fully protected in accordance with established security procedures.

Operation HADIN KAI urges members of the public to support ongoing counter-terrorism efforts by providing credible and timely information that could assist security agencies in locating and apprehending these suspected terrorist operatives. Members of the public are encouraged to report any relevant information through established security reporting channels or via 0708 498 8859. Citizens are strongly advised not to confront or attempt to apprehend the suspected terrorists under any circumstances.

MINISTER OF DEFENCE LAUDS OPAA II TROOPS FOR FLYING NIGERIA'S FLAG HIGH IN THE REPUBLIC OF BENIN

The Honourable Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (rtd), has commended Nigerian Army troops deployed on the Peace Support Mission in the Republic of Benin under Operation ATILEYIN ALAFIA II (OPAA II) for their outstanding professionalism and dedication, noting that they have continued to fly Nigeria's flag high through their exemplary conduct and commitment to regional peace and security.

The Minister gave the commendation during a morale-boosting visit to the troops at Camp Togbin, Cotonou, where he was accompanied by senior Nigerian defence officials. Addressing the troops, General Musa expressed satisfaction with their performance throughout the mission, describing their service as a true reflection of the discipline, resilience, and professionalism for which the Nigerian Armed Forces are known.

General Musa conveyed the goodwill message of the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, stating that the President is particularly pleased with the troops' exceptional performance and extends his warm greetings and appreciation to them for their sacrifices in promoting peace and strengthening bilateral relations between Nigeria and the Republic of Benin.

The Minister further reaffirmed Nigeria's commitment to deepening defence cooperation with the Republic of Benin, stressing that both countries would continue to work collaboratively to eliminate criminal elements operating along their shared borders. He noted that sustained military cooperation remains critical to enhancing border security and ensuring lasting peace and stability within the sub-region.

While wishing the troops a safe journey back to Nigeria upon the successful completion of their mission, General Musa thanked them for their selfless service and urged them to remain steadfast in upholding the core values of the Nigerian Army wherever they may be called upon to serve.

The highlight of the visit was the presentation of a commemorative souvenir to the Honourable Minister of Defence by the Commanding Officer, Operation ATILEYIN ALAFIA II, Lieutenant Colonel AA Ikoro, in appreciation of his visit, encouragement, and unwavering support to the troops deployed on the peace support mission.
