7 THINGS TO DO WHEN YOU REALISE YOU MAY HAVE MARRIED THE WRONG PERSON

Sometimes, the person you married may turn out to have values, character, habits, or behaviours that make the marriage you envisioned extremely difficult to build.

And sometimes, you don't discover this until years into the marriage.

But before you conclude that you married wrong, remember that disappointment, incompatibility, and abuse are not the same thing.

Marriage also requires growth, adjustment, and accountability from both partners.

So, what can you do when you begin questioning your marriage?

1. STOP BLAMING YOURSELF.
You made your decision based on what you knew, what you saw, and what you believed at the time.
Discovering difficult realities doesn't automatically mean you were foolish.
Give yourself permission to learn without constantly punishing yourself for the past.

2. STOP LIVING IN REGRET.
Don't spend your days imagining the person you could have married or the life you could have had.
And please, stop comparing your marriage with someone's carefully selected social-media moments.
You cannot rewrite yesterday, but you can make wiser decisions today.

3. REBUILD YOURSELF.
Don't allow marital disappointment to make you lose your identity.
Grow intellectually.
Develop useful skills.
Strengthen your finances.
Take care of your health.
Build healthy friendships and a support system.
Continue developing your relationship with God.
Build you, even while you are working on your marriage.

4. SEPARATE DISAPPOINTMENT FROM DANGER.
Not every difficult marriage is an unsafe marriage.
Misunderstandings, personality differences, unmet expectations, and communication problems may require counselling, patience, and intentional work.
But physical violence, serious threats, coercion, and other forms of abuse require a different response.
Don't call danger "marital challenges."
Seek appropriate help and prioritize safety.

5. DON'T MAKE PERMANENT DECISIONS IN PANIC.
When emotions are extremely high, give yourself room to breathe and think.
Gather information.
Seek wise counsel.
Have honest conversations.
Understand your options.
Then make decisions from clarity rather than anger, fear, or pressure.

6. STOP MARRYING YOUR SPOUSE'S POTENTIAL.
You cannot build a marriage entirely around who you hope your spouse will eventually become.
Pay attention to who they are consistently.
People can change, but change must involve their own willingness and action.
Encourage growth, but don't make your entire future dependent on a promise that has never been demonstrated.

7. DECIDE WHAT YOU WILL DO NEXT.
Eventually, you have to ask yourself some honest questions

Can this marriage be repaired?
Is my spouse willing to work on it?
What am I willing to accept?
What can no longer continue?
What professional or spiritual help do we need?

And depending on the circumstances, the decision may be to stay and intentionally rebuild—or to consider separation or leaving when the marriage is persistently harmful or unsafe.

The goal is not to make a rushed decision.
The goal is to make a wise decision based on reality.

And remember, recognising that your marriage is struggling does not mean your life is over.

You can still heal.
You can still grow.
You can still become stronger and wiser.

Don't lose yourself trying to save a marriage that requires two people to rebuild.

And if both of you are willing to learn, change, and do the work, don't be too quick to bury a marriage that may still be capable of healing.

Sometimes the answer isn't simply “stay” or “leave.” Sometimes the first answer is: STOP, GET WISE COUNSEL, AND SEE CLEARLY. ❤️🏡

GOD AT THE CENTER OF IT ALL ❤️🏡

In all your getting, put God at the center of every decision you make in your home.

Not secondly ooo… firstly! 😜🤣e get why😳💯

Many couples remember God when there is trouble, but a healthy marriage invites God into the decision-making process from the beginning.

Before making major financial decisions, pray.

Before making decisions about your children, pray.

Before responding to a difficult situation, seek God's wisdom.

Before allowing family, friends, or social media opinions to influence your home, ask: “What does God want us to do?”

Putting God first doesn't mean couples will never disagree. No,no 🙆🙆

It means they have a higher standard guiding their decisions than emotions, pride, or pressure.

A marriage centered on God learns to forgive, communicate, serve, exercise patience, and seek wisdom.

Don't build your home around money, feelings, or convenience.

Build it on God, because everything else can change.

“Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain.” — Psalm 127:1

So, dear couples, don't just put God in your marriage..put Him at the center of it. 🙏🏽❤️🏡

“When I got married, marriage was hèll. If there is anything called “hèllièr than hèll”, that was exactly how my marriage felt.

In the first week of our marriage, I asked my wife a simple question, and she got upset. I was coming from a background where we did not know too much anger, but I had married a woman who knew anger very well.

We were in the kitchen. She was arranging tea cups, saucers and other things when, suddenly, she moved all the cups and plates with one hand, and they fell to the ground. Bam, bam, bam, bam. She turned around and gave me a stare. I was shocked. I had never seen anything like that before. I went into the room, packed my things and left the house because I genuinely thought the next thing she would do was be@t me.

This continued for a while because she had a fundamental problem with anger. I could not talk to my wife freely without worrying about how she would react. Every now and then, she acted as though she was the man of the house.

Let me cut the long story short. One day, I told God, “I am done. I have done everything right in this life. The only thing I got wrong was my marriage. You know me, I have tried. Let us go our separate ways. She is successful, I am successful, and everybody will be fine.”

But before I get to what God told me, let me share one story. My wife and I were once in London. She went into a shop while I remained outside. Later, I went into another shop to pick up something. When she returned and found out I had gone to another shop, she became upset.

I said, “Ah, you should have told me you were going to the other shop. We would have gone together. I am not used to the cold here.” She looked at me and said, “What did you say? What did you say?” I told her, “That is what I said. Do you want me to be afraid of you?” That was a statement I often made because I felt she was always trying to intimidate me.

She left me in that shop and went home. I did not even realise she had left until much later. I called her friend and asked, “Please, where is my wife? I am here, and I do not know where to go.” Her friend called my wife and asked where she was. She said she was already at home. Her response was, “Let him find his way back.” I eventually found my way back, packed my things again, changed my ticket and left that night. That was how difficult our marriage had become.

At some point, when she returned to Nigeria so that we could live together, things became even worse. Then one day, while I was praying, I told God, “This is the end. Let her go her way and let me go mine.” And God said something to me that changed my entire perspective.

He said, “This marriage is not a destination. It is an assignment. And the extent to which you solve this assignment will determine your promotion in destiny.”

That changed everything for me. My mindset shifted from coming into marriage to receive love, to making sure my wife always said the right things, to expecting her to behave the way I wanted. I began to see marriage as a place where I also had an assignment: to give love, to say the right things, to control my reactions and not respond to every expression of anger with anger. I am not saying it suddenly became a bed of roses. It did not.

But today, I can stand and say that my wife is one of the sweetest people you will ever meet. She was not always like this, but God had to bring me to the place where I began to see my marriage as an assignment. Our assignments are different.

Some people have short essays, some have objective questions, some have difficult subjects, and some have different challenges altogether. We all have our assignments.

But first, change your mindset and understand that your marriage is an assignment. When your mindset changes, your approach to your marital problems will change too”

— Pastor Jerry Eze has opened up about the difficult early years of his marriage, revealing how frequent anger and conflict once made him consider ending the relationship

LESSONS TO LEARN FROM PSQUARE 😭😂

Nawa ooo!
Uwa ka sef! 😂😭

Honestly, this whole PSquare saga is teaching many people one big lesson🫤😳

In all you do, don't forget to love yourself too.

What did I say?

LOVE YOURSELF TOO. ❤️

PLAN FOR YOURSELF BEFORE US💯✅.

Is that selfish?

Hmmmm… let's talk. 😂

You can love people deeply

You can support their dreams.

You can sacrifice for family.

You can build businesses together.

You can stand by someone through their difficult seasons.

But while doing all these things, don't completely lose yourself...even as couples.

People change.

Situations change.

Priorities change.

Even people you once believed would always stand beside you can sometimes change with time.

That doesn't mean you should stop loving people.

It means you should love with wisdom.

Know your worth.

Protect your peace.

Set healthy boundaries.

Build yourself.

Have your own identity💯✅.

And never allow your entire existence to depend on another person💪👍.

Sometimes, we become so busy helping others write their stories that we forget to write our own.

You can support someone without losing yourself.

You can love someone without abandoning yourself.

You can forgive someone without repeatedly allowing yourself to be destroyed.

You can build with people while still building YOU.

Because life is unpredictable.

Relationships change.

People grow in different directions.

And when everything becomes quiet, you must still be able to look at yourself and say

"I didn't lose myself while loving you." ❤️

So yes, love people.

Support people.

Build with people.

But please…

Don't disappear from your own story while helping someone else write theirs. 💯

Nawa for this life ooo! 😂😭 But in everything, life must go on..it can't stop because of a bad day or season so trade with caution 😞

What lesson have you personally learned from watching the PSquare saga? 👀👇

I declare over your life and household today that the presence of God will go with you.

You will not have a portion in bitterness, sorrow, shame, or disappointment if they are shared freely.

Your household shall be preserved from every evil report, in Jesus' Name.

Every strange wind of the enemy assigned to scatter, destroy, or blow away the good rewards of your labour shall be silenced, in Jesus' Mighty Name.

Your efforts will not be wasted.
Your labour will produce results.
Your prayers will receive answers.

Your waiting season will turn into a testimony.

May doors of favour open for you this week.

MARRIAGE IS NOT ABOUT WHO IS KIND WHEN YOU AGREE

Anyone can be sweet when everything is going their way.

It is easy to say “I love you” when there is laughter, romance, money, peace, and agreement in the home.

But marriage reveals something deeper when two people disagree.

How do you treat your spouse when you are angry?

Can you still speak with respect when you feel misunderstood?

Can you disagree without insulting?

Can you express your disappointment without humiliating your spouse?

Can you remain kind when you are hurt?

Marriage is not tested only in the good moments.

Sometimes, the greatest evidence of love is how you behave when you are upset with the person you love.

Anyone can love you on your best days.

But mature love says:
"Even though I'm angry, I will not deliberately hurt you."

"Even though we disagree, I will still respect you."

"Even though I'm disappointed, I will not use your weakness against you."

This does not mean tolerating abuse or pretending that serious issues don't exist.

Healthy marriage still requires boundaries, accountability, and honest conversations.

But disagreement should never become permission to destroy each other.

Your spouse is not your enemy simply because they have a different opinion.

Learn to fight for the marriage, not against each other.

Because one day, the disagreement will pass.

The anger will settle.

The issue will be resolved.

But the words spoken and wounds created during that moment may remain.

Love is not proven only by how beautifully you treat your spouse when things are good.

It is also revealed by the kindness, restraint, and respect you show when things are difficult. ❤️🏡

How are you treating your spouse in the moment of disagreement 😂

"Marriage Wasn't What I Expected...
"
When peace got married, she believed every day would feel like their courtship days so peaceful 😁.

She imagined endless romance, surprise gifts, late night conversations, and butterflies every morning.

For the first few months, it was exactly that.

Then life happened.

Bills arrived.
Work became demanding.

A baby came along.
Sleep became a luxury.

Sometimes they argued over things that seemed so small.

One evening, peace sat quietly and said to her husband,

"I thought marriage would always feel like dating."

Her husband smiled and replied,

Dating made us fall in love.

Marriage is teaching us how to stay in love.

Those words changed her perspective.

She realized that the butterflies hadn't disappeared, they had simply matured.

The excitement of waiting for his phone call had become the comfort of hearing his key at the front door.

The thrill of expensive dates had become the joy of eating together after a long day.

The passion of courtship had grown into the security of knowing someone would stand by her through life's storms.

Marriage wasn't less beautiful than she imagined.

It was beautiful in a different way.

She discovered that real love isn't measured by constant excitement but by consistent commitment.

Years later, peace says,

Marriage gave me more than butterflies.

It gave me a best friend, a partner, a prayer companion, and someone to do life with.

It also taught me patience, forgiveness, and the kind of love that grows stronger through every season.

Marriage will surprise you.

Some surprises will make you laugh.

Some will make you cry.

But if two people are willing to learn, forgive, communicate, and keep choosing each other, the greatest surprise is discovering that love can grow deeper than the butterflies that brought you together. ❤️🏡

So what is marriage teaching you

Are There Pleasant Surprises in Marriage?

Many people enter marriage expecting a lifetime of butterflies, excitement, and nonstop romance.

And yes, marriage has beautiful moments.

There are pleasant surprises.

The joy of building a home together.

The laughter over silly jokes only the two of you understand.

The comfort of having someone who truly knows you.

The excitement of answered prayers, shared victories, raising children, celebrating milestones, and growing old together.

But marriage is more than butterflies in the stomach🤣😂.

Butterflies are beautiful, but they are feelings💯👌and feelings come and go😜.

Marriage is built on something deeper👇
commitment, friendship, patience, forgiveness, communication, sacrifice, and intentional love.

There will be days when your spouse surprises you with kindness, thoughtful gestures, and unwavering support.

There may also be days when marriage surprises you with challenges you never imagined🤔🤔misunderstandings, financial pressure, unmet expectations, personality differences, or difficult seasons.

Those moments don't mean you married the wrong person.

They remind us that marriage is a journey of growth.

The happiest couples are not those who never face storms.

They are those who learn to walk through the storms hand in hand.

So, has marriage proved you right or wrong?

Has it been different from what you imagined?

What has been your biggest pleasant surprise?

What lesson has marriage taught you that you do far?

💬 Let's hear your thoughts in the comments. Your experience may encourage another couple today. ❤️

Don't Be Deceived by Outward Appearances

One of the greatest mistakes couples make is comparing their marriage to what they see on social media or in public.

A smiling photo does not tell the whole story.

A romantic anniversary post does not mean there have never been tears.

A couple holding hands at an event does not mean they have never disagreed.

The truth is, there is no such thing as a 100% stress-free marriage.

Every marriage has its own challenges.

Every couple has moments of misunderstanding.

Every family goes through seasons of pressure, financial demands, parenting struggles, health concerns, disappointments, or emotional battles.

The difference is not that some couples have no problems.

The difference is that they have learned how to face those problems together instead of turning against each other.

Don't let another person's highlight reel make you despise your own journey.

Instead of constantly comparing, start appreciating.

Appreciate the little progress you've made.

Appreciate the spouse who is trying, even if they are not yet perfect.

Celebrate the small victories.

Laugh together.
Pray together.
Keep growing together.

Comparison steals joy

Gratitude strengthens love.

Stop chasing the illusion of a perfect marriage.

Focus on building a healthy one.

A successful marriage is not the absence of problems; it is the presence of two committed people who choose to love, forgive, communicate, and grow through every season of life.

So today, thank God for your spouse.

Work on your marriage.

Protect your peace.

And remember, the best marriage is not the one that looks perfect to the world
. but the one where two imperfect people keep choosing each other every day.

"Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." — 1 Thessalonians 5:18 ❤️🏡
