*Celebrating the Farm Festival of the Okiti of Iju Kingdom*

The people of Iju Kingdom are once again gathered in joy and gratitude as they celebrate the annual Farm Festival, popularly known as Odun Ijesu, on *15th August, 2026.* This important cultural event is a time of thanksgiving for a successful farming season, communal unity, and appreciation of the rich heritage that has been passed down through generations.

At the centre of this year's celebration is the revered traditional ruler, *HRM Oba Amos Adelakun Farukanmi, The Ajigbade I, Okiti of Iju Kingdom,* whose leadership, wisdom, and dedication continue to promote peace, development, and cultural preservation within the kingdom.

The Farm Festival is more than a cultural gathering; it is a symbol of the strong bond between the people and their agricultural roots. It provides an opportunity for sons and daughters of Iju Kingdom, both at home and in the diaspora, to come together in celebration, strengthen relationships, and honour the blessings of the land.

As drums echo across the kingdom and colourful displays of tradition fill the atmosphere, the festival serves as a reminder of the values of hard work, unity, and gratitude that define the people of Iju.

We heartily congratulate *HRM Oba Amos Adelakun Farukanmi, The Ajigbade I,* on this memorable occasion and pray that God grants him continued good health, long life, wisdom, and many more successful celebrations.

Happy Farm Festival (Odun Ijesu)!

*Long live HRM Oba Amos Adelakun Farukanmi, The Ajigbade I.*
*Long live the Okiti of Iju Kingdom.*
*Long live Iju Kingdom.*

*Strange Midnight Odour Across Akure: What Could Be Responsible?*

In recent weeks, many residents of Akure have complained about a strange odour that often becomes noticeable around midnight and in the early hours of the morning. The recurring smell has sparked discussions across communities, with many wondering about its source and possible effects on public health.

While there has been no official confirmation regarding the exact cause, several factors may be responsible for the unpleasant odour.

One possible cause is the growing challenge of waste management in some parts of Akure. Reports have highlighted the presence of refuse heaps and stagnant wastewater in several areas of the city, conditions that can generate strong offensive smells, especially at night when atmospheric conditions allow odours to travel farther.

Another possibility is blocked drainage channels and sewage systems. During the night, cooler temperatures and calmer winds can trap gases closer to the ground, making unpleasant smells more noticeable to residents. Improper waste disposal and environmental sanitation issues have also been identified as concerns within the state.

In some cases, the odour could be linked to the burning of refuse, industrial activities, or emissions from decomposing organic materials. Environmental experts note that weather conditions during the night can intensify and spread odours over large distances, causing entire neighbourhoods to experience the same smell at once.

Residents are encouraged to remain observant and report persistent or unusual environmental conditions to the appropriate authorities. Keeping our surroundings clean, disposing of waste properly, and supporting environmental sanitation efforts will help create a healthier and more pleasant Akure for everyone.

A clean environment is a collective responsibility. Together, we can identify the source of the problem and work towards a lasting solution.
