JAPA: THE BEST DECISION FOR A NIGERIA GRADUATE AFTER SCHOOL
Last week, I attended an inter-faculty debate program in my school, and the topic was “Japa: the best decision for a Nigerian graduate after school.” A faculty with their representatives supported the motion, while the other opposed it. They all shared brilliant ideas about what they think concerning the topic.
Those who supported the motion talked a lot about Nigeria and the economy. They said “Japa” is the best decision. They made strong points, saying this is a country where you see graduates riding Okada, while others search for jobs for years. Some end up feeding from hand to mouth. They also mentioned that the government does not really care about the situation of the nation, and that insecurity is high, people are being killed, and it is not even safe for people to live in. Based on all these, they argued that leaving the country is the best option.
On the other hand, those who opposed the motion said it is not the best decision. They asked: if all Nigerian youths leave the country, who will remain to make it better? Who will build the nation and develop it into something great? They encouraged us to stay and contribute to building our country, so that change can start from within. And they left us with a popular quote "Charity begins at home."
Personally, I’m not here to fully support or oppose the motion. I just want to hear your opinion.
Do you think “Japa” is the best decision for a Nigerian graduate after school? Let me know in the comment section.

Gen Z! Gen Z!! Gen Z!!!
“This ‘I Don’t Owe Anyone a Response’ Mindset Is Getting Out of Hand…”
I’ve been noticing something lately… and honestly, it’s not sitting right with me especially among younger people like I am (Gen Z's).
You greet someone “hi,” “hello,” “good morning” and they see it but choose not to respond. Not because they didn’t notice, but because they simply won’t. Why???
And somehow, this behavior is now being packaged as maturity, “protecting your energy,” or “not forcing conversations.”
But let’s be real for a second, since when did basic courtesy become optional? When???
A greeting is not a burden. It’s not pressure. It’s the simplest form of human connection.
It’s just a way of saying: I see you. And when you ignore it, intentionally, it doesn’t make you deep or evolved it comes across as dismissive.
Yes, we all have bad days. Yes, we all get overwhelmed, agreed.
But does it really cost that much to say “hello” back?
Let’s not normalize silence where kindness should exist. Let’s not mistake indifference for growth.
Because slowly, little by little, this is how we lose our humanity.
And honestly… it’s not a good look for any of us.
Let’s do better. A greeting deserves a response. 🤍
