Grow potatoes in containers at home with just one potato
What You Need
One seed potato (or sprouted potato)
Large container (10-15 gallons, with drainage holes)
Potting soil or compost
Fertilizer (optional)
Water
Steps
1. Prepare the Potato: Cut a sprouted potato into 2-3 pieces, each with "eyes." Let them dry for 24 hours to prevent rotting.
2. Prepare the Container: Choose a large container with drainage holes. Fill with 4-6 inches of potting soil or compost, mixed with a bit of fertilizer.
3. Plant the Potato: Place the potato pieces (sprouts facing up) on the soil. Cover with another 4-6 inches of soil, leaving room to add more soil as the plant grows.
4. Water Regularly: Keep the soil moist but not waterlogged. Water when the top inch feels dry.
5. Add Soil as Plants Grow: As green shoots emerge, keep adding soil to cover the lower parts, leaving the top leaves exposed. This promotes more tuber production.
6. Provide Sunlight: Place the container in a sunny spot for 6-8 hours of light daily.
7. Harvest: After 10-12 weeks or when foliage yellows, gently dig to find potatoes.
Tips for Success
Use a large container with good drainage.
Choose healthy seed potatoes or sprouted ones.
Add soil regularly as the plant grows.
Protect from frost.
Benefits
Space-Saving: Ideal for small spaces.
Easy to Manage: Control soil and pests effectively.
No Digging: Simply empty the container to harvest.

THE INTERVIEW

I would have sl3pt with my cousin if my Dad had not walked in.

I was coming back from school when the bike I took fell on the road. It was a narrow escape that a trailer didn't grind my head.

Thanks to this handsome, cute guy, who risked his life and briskly dragged me away from the big tyres.

He held me close to himself as I was shaking and scared. He gave me his shirt to cover my scratched body. Then took me to a chemist, and paid for the treatment and drugs.

I couldn't go to school for the rest of the week, but Olu G was always in my house to take care of me. He would cook for me and my roommate. And insisted I take my drugs before he leaves.

Our friendship blossomed, and we became very close to the extent that his babe left him.

I was glad because it is very hard to see a very caring guy who isn't interested in your body but just wants to be there for you. To love and cherish you.

I had a boyfriend too, Samuel, but ever since Olu G came into the picture, it became hard for me to continue the relationship.

One morning, I dialled Samuel's number and informed him that I wanted to break up with him.

Olu was ready for me, and after my breakup, I walked right into his soft chiselled arms.

Just a few kis3es here and there to hold the body well before the holiday.

During the holiday, I invited him over and he came. My Dad wasn't around then.

We were inside the room playing and ki3sing until the mood changed.

As he was about to remove my clothes, I heard my Dad's car honking outside the gate.🤪🙉

We rushed back to the sitting room, pretending everything was cool.🙊

I was not happy. We missed the opportunity.

“Who is this?”

My Dad asked. His eyes were red as he saw Olu G. You know how Dads behave, nah. The poor guy was shaking 🙈😂

Fear Daddy like this abeg!

“He… He … is my friend, sir.”

I stuttered. He hissed and looked at him scornfully.

“I don't know how old you are that you are bringing a man to my house. Gina! Anyway, young man, who are you?”

The interview began. That word ehn will make you gulp your own spit a million times.

“My, my name is Oluwagbemiga, a final year student of Biochemistry, U- Unilag sir.”

He struggled to compose himself. I winked at him to calm down.

“Oluwagbemiga, is that how your lecturer taught you how to introduce yourself? Common, correct yourself.”

“Okay, sir. My name is Oluwagbemiga, Samuel. I am from Ogun State, Abeokuta….”

“Stop there.”

He interrupted him. My heart nearly jumped out of my mouth.

“Gbenga Samuel. Good. From Abeokuta right?”

“Yes, yes sir.”

“Good…. So, where in Abeokuta?”

“Onikolobo sir.”

“Alright. What is your father's name?”

“Ah! My father's name is Alexander Samuel.”

“Oh, Good of you. What does your father do?”

“He is a teacher, sir.”

It was at this time I discovered that Olu's zip was open.

Ah, I'm de3ad.🙊🙆

“Do you have your father's number?”

“Yes sir.”

“Dial his number and tell him that you are at Doctor Benjamin Samuel's house.”

He commanded. With the speed of light, he did as he commanded. We kept stealing a glance at each other.

I hope it's not what I'm thinking.

“Put it on speaker!”

“Okay, sir.”

Olu's dad picked up the call.

“Hello, Daddy.”

“Hello, son. Are you still in school?”

“No sir… I… I… I am at Doctor Benjamin Samuel's house, sir.”

“I can't hear you well. Will you repeat that name for me one more time?”

“I am at Dr. Benjamin Samuel's house, sir.”

“How is that possible? Do you know who that is? Listen, is he black?”

“Yes sir.”

“Is he tall with a big tummy?”

“Ye…ye…yes sir."

“Ah! That is my brother! Is he there? Let me greet him. It's been 15 years since I heard from him.”

My Dad collected the phone and they both talked until he started laughing.

Whatever made them apart is none of my business. My problem is, the relationship that I have been bragging about on all social media just got ruin!ed.😭

After the call, he turned to us and held out hands.

“What is the relationship between the two of you?”

“Daddy, we are friends.”

I lied with confidence. He knew it.

He saw the worn-out zip.

“You can't be just a friend and his zip will be down like this. But I hope you have not yum-yum yourselves?”

“Ah, no sir!”

Olu hurriedly jumped in. He took a sigh.

“If you do that is pure inc3est. Both of you are cousins. So, whatever you are must end here. Gbenga, Gina is your sister. And you, make sure you respect him because he is your brother. Understood?"

“Yes sir.”

We chorused. I can never respect this one again.

Never!

Anytime I see him on campus, I feel ashamed because I can't imagine I almost got smashed by my cousin.

Gosh!

But he pressed me sha. 😭😭

He pressed me.😭😭🙈😂

Try to meet your distant cousin oh. Make you no go discover your bride na your cousin.
