“While the initiative to beautify our state is a step in the right direction, neglecting its maintenance could undermine its long‑term effectiveness.”

By;

Abdulganiy Olamilekan Esinrogunjo

In line with Governor Abdulrahman’s mission to make our beloved state beautiful and welcoming, it is important that every beatification project receives consistent and proper maintenance. Without effective upkeep, we risk losing the value and impact of these initiatives over time.That is why the Ministry of Environment must give these projects the attention they deserve.

A quick look at recent roundabout renovations shows that the Yebumot, Adeta and Pakata roundabouts have not been adequately maintained since they were refurbished. These neglected areas clearly indicate where the Commissioner of Environment's focus and supervision should be strengthenened.

Beautification ideas are welcome, but maintenance is key. What deliberate steps is the Ministry taking to ensure these public spaces remain clean, attractive, and functional? To avoid repeating the same issue at the newly renovated Ahmadu Bello roundabout, there is an urgent need for a structured system that keeps Kwara clean and orderly. I therefore urge the Ministry of Environment to ensure that the personnel responsible for cleaning and upkeep are performing their duties effectively. If such personnel already exist, they should be monitored and if they do not, a solution should be provided immediately.

Proper maintenance will not only preserve the beauty of our state but also create job opportunities for citizens and inspire people to take pride in their surroundings.

Furthermore, the Ministry should look beyond roundabout by exploring additional strategies to Improve cleanliness across the state — such as organising regular community clean-up exercises, installing more waste management bins, and establishing a simple monitoring system to detect problems early.

Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq has taken Commendable steps to introduce positive initiatives and position Kwara as one of the most creatively appealing states to visit. I implore the Commissioner of Environment to take responsibility and give the necessary support the Governor’s excellent efforts.
