Endocannibalism
While some of us believe burying the dead in a dignifying funeral, some believe it's better to eat their dead loved ones. However, it has to be said that this strange funeral is not cannibalism it's a ritual.
Tribes that eat their dead loved ones do so for reasons that has nothing to do with the consumption of human meat as a gastronomic delight.
Endocannibalism is practiced by Fore Tribe of Papua New Guinea, the Wari Tribe of the Amazon and other ancient tribes in India.
Some tribes eat the flesh of their dead loved ones believing that they can absorb the loved one’s wisdom through the ritual. Women and children of the Fore Tribe eat the flesh of their Fore males. The part of the body they eat depend on what attribute of the dead they want to absorb. For example, a Fore boy may eat the brain of his dead father to get his wisdom.
Ancient tribes in India eat the flesh of a dead family member to get supernatural powers. For the Wari Tribe, they eat the dead in order to cast out the fear and mystery of death.
Let's not forget that there are some who burn their dead family member to ashes and keep the ashes. It appears that the interpretation of the value that we humans place on the co**se differs from people to people.
