Ylang-ylang is one of the classic florals in perfumery.
It is a floral oil. It has a soft fruity-banana and creamy undertone that sets it apart from other white florals, that's the "custardy" quality people often described.
It is used as a Middle/Heart note in Perfumery. It adds a creamy, slightly fruity sweetness that softens sharper florals, it's often used to round out jasmine or tuberose so they don't read too sharp or indolic on their own.
It brings a narcotic, tropical richness, it's a core note in classic "big white floral" compositions (think Chanel No. 5 era) and in modern tropical/solar florals.
It works beautifully with vanilla, sandalwood, and tonka bean for warm gourmand-floral bases.
In small doses it adds diffusion and lift to a blend; in larger doses it can dominate and read as heavy or "old-fashioned floral," so it's usually dosed carefully (often under 5-10% of a floral accord).
One skill you can monetise from anywhere with a small Capital and have good profit is the diffuser and roomspray business and I am here to show and teach you how to begin.
