Full story 💯

The sun was shining brightly as the school bus pulled up to the entrance of Redwood National Forest in Northern California. The students of Lincoln High School, chattering excitedly, poured out of the bus. Their teacher, Mrs. Johnson, gathered them around her.

"Alright, kids! Today we're going to explore one of the most beautiful forests in the country. Stay on the trail, and don't wander off," Mrs. Johnson instructed.

The group set off, led by their guide, Ranger Thompson. As they walked deeper into the forest, the trees grew taller, and the air grew thick with the scent of pine. The students marveled at the giant redwoods, their cameras snapping photos left and right.

"I love it here!" exclaimed Emily Wilson, her eyes wide with wonder. "It's like a magical kingdom!"

"I'm glad you're enjoying it, Emily," Ranger Thompson replied with a smile. "But remember, we need to stick together."

As they continued on the trail, the group came across a clearing. In the center of the clearing stood an old, gnarled tree, its branches twisted and tangled.

"What's that tree?" asked Tyler Brown, his voice filled with curiosity.

"That's an ancient redwood," Ranger Thompson explained. "It's been standing here for centuries."

As the sun began to set, casting long shadows across the forest floor, the group decided to head back. But as they turned to leave, they realized they were lost.

"Wait, which way did we come from?" asked Sarah Lee, her voice laced with concern.

"I thought we were going this way," said Emily, pointing down a narrow path.

"But I could've sworn we came from that direction," Tyler said, pointing in the opposite direction.

As the group stood there, arguing, the forest around them began to grow darker. The wind picked up, rustling the leaves and causing the trees to creak ominously.

"Guys, let's just stick together and find our way back," Mrs. Johnson said, trying to reassure them.

But as they walked, the sound of twigs snapping and leaves crunching beneath their feet seemed to take on a life of its own. It sounded like someone – or something – was following them.

"What's that noise?" whispered Sarah, her voice trembling.

"It's just the wind," Ranger Thompson replied, but his voice was laced with uncertainty.

As the darkness deepened, the group stumbled upon an old, abandoned cabin. The door creaked ominously as they approached.

"Do you think it's safe to go inside?" Emily asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

"I don't know," Ranger Thompson said, his eyes scanning the surrounding area. "But we might find some shelter for the night."

As they entered the cabin, they heard a strange creaking sound. It sounded like the sound of old wooden bones rattling.

"What was that?" Tyler asked, his voice shaking.

"I don't know," Mrs. Johnson replied, her voice firm. "But we're going to find a way out of here."

Suddenly, the wind howled outside, and the cabin door slammed shut. The group was plunged into darkness.

"Ahh!" Emily screamed. "What's happening?"

As they fumbled for their flashlights, they heard the sound of skeletal rattling, like bones shaking in the darkness.

"Oh my god," Sarah whispered. "What is that?"

The group stood frozen in terror, unsure of what was happening. But then, Ranger Thompson's voice cut through the darkness.

"We need to get out of here, now!"

The group made a frantic dash for the door, but as they emerged into the night air, they saw a figure standing in the distance. Tall, gaunt, and skeletal, it seemed to be watching them.

"Run!" Ranger Thompson yelled.

The group sprinted through the forest, the sound of their own footsteps and ragged breathing the only sounds they could hear. They didn't stop until they saw the lights of the school bus in the distance.

As they piled onto the bus, exhausted and shaken, Mrs. Johnson turned to Ranger Thompson.

"Thank you for getting us out of there," she said, her voice filled with gratitude.

Ranger Thompson nodded, his face grim. "We'll never forget this trip," he said.

The bus pulled away from the forest, leaving the darkness and terror behind. As they drove back to Lincoln High School, the group was silent, still trying to process what had happened.

"I'll never forget this night," Emily whispered to Tyler.

"Me neither," Tyler replied, his eyes wide with fear. "Let's just hope we never go back there again."
