We all know that Black women have to take extra special care of our hair—especially those edges‼️
The major cause of hair loss in Black women is Traction Alopecia🙆🏽♀️, which is caused by tension from aggressive and excessive hairstyling such as braids, weaves or wigs😩
Here are 4 Reasons your Edges are disappearing:
1. Chemicals: Frequently relaxing and dyeing hair leaves it weak as these products have strong chemicals that act on the internal structure of the hair to permanently change it🥺
2. Tight Hairstyles: Tying your hair down in a bun or sleek ponytail all the time is a No No. Also leaving your hair in tight flat braids or flat twist, are also terrible for your scalp. All that pulling and tugging will do your hair no good😒
3. Friction: We may not me aware of it, but often times friction can damage our edges. If you use headbands, helmets, beanies, hats, caps or anything that holds around the hairline make sure it’s not too tight👍
4. Wearing Hairstyles too long: It’s important to take a break from hairstyles that cause friction on your hair. Not only in order to properly cleanse both your hair/scalp, but also to avoid tangling or excessive dryness.

When you spend money on human hair, you expect to get many uses out of it. So it becomes frustrating when the hair becomes a shadow of itself just after wearing it a few times🙆🏽♀️. Your investment is only as good as the way you treat it. Here are 3 Tips to help make your hair last longer👇🏼
1. Stay Away From Grease/Oil: Hair greases are solid lubricants and the only purpose they serve in your wig is to attract dirt to it. The next time you notice your unit looking dull and dry, please resist the temptation to add any oily product just to make it shine❌. Rather, use water based moisturizers like Leave-in-conditioners. If you must put some oil, apply very little amounts of Olive oil or Argan oil.
2. Brush Carefully: We all want our hair to remain thick and full. Shedding is a huge problem when you don’t handle your unit with care🤦♀️. To avoid or reduce this, you need to ensure that you brush your unit very carefully starting from the tip and work your way to the root. Take your time do not drag or forcefully comb through your unit. Use a wide tooth comb or detangling brush.
3. Store Properly: Your weave needs to be stored properly, when it’s in use and when it’s not. Do not use rubber bands to pack your hair. Unlike regular hairnets, satin or silk bonnets (night caps) help to retain moisture. Packing or braiding the hair at night also helps avoid tangling. When your weave is not in use, store it in a dry place. Even better, get a satin/silk bag for weave storage👍.
