HAIR LOSS IN MOTHERS:
Many new moms see noticeable hair loss a few months after having a baby. This is normal — and it is not true hair loss. Dermatologists refer to this condition as excessive hair shedding. The excessive shedding is caused by falling estrogen levels.
The good news is that this excessive shedding is temporary, and you do not have to do anything to remedy it. Most women see their hair return to its normal fullness by their child’s first birthday. Many women regain normal fullness even earlier.
Dermatologists’ tips for new mothers
If the excessive hair shedding bothers you, these tips from dermatologists can help until your hair regains its normal fullness.
Use shampoo and conditioner that add volume. Here’s what dermatologists recommend using and avoiding:
Use a volumizing shampoo. These shampoos tend to contain ingredients like protein that coat the hair, making the hair appear fuller.
Avoid any shampoo labeled “conditioning shampoo.” These contain heavy conditioners that can weigh down the hair and make it look limp.
Use a conditioner formulated for fine hair. These contain lighter formulas that will not weigh down hair.
Use conditioner primarily on the ends of your hair. Applying conditioner to your scalp and all of your hair tends to weigh down hair.
Avoid conditioners labeled “intensive conditioners.” These are too heavy.
Finding the best shampoo and conditioner for thin hair is really a matter of trial and error. There is no single ingredient that makes a volumizing shampoo or conditioner for fine hair better than the rest.
Try a new hairstyle. Some haircuts make hair look fuller. An experienced stylist can tell you what will work for you.
Many new mothers prefer short hair. A short style can make hair look fuller. Short hair also can be easier to manage, which can save time. With a baby, anything that saves time can be a real boon.
Beware of a hair tourniquet
New mothers also should watch out for hair tourniquets. A hair tourniquet forms when a strand of hair falls out and wraps around a baby’s toe, finger, or other body part. A single strand can wrap so tightly that it cuts off circulation or causes an infection.
Don’t panic. The likelihood of your baby getting a hair tourniquet is very rare. Knowing what to do, however, can be helpful.
If you see a shed hair wrapped around your baby finger, toe, or other body part, you must remove it. Here what you should do:
Look for a loose end and gently unwind the hair.
Sometimes you will not see a loose end, so you’ll need something to gently cut the hair, such as a small knife or scissors.
If you cannot remove the hair because it is wound too tightly or enmeshed in your baby’s skin, you need to get medical help. Call your baby’s doctor or take your baby to the emergency room. Sometimes a doctor has to remove a hair tourniquet.
Hair falls out for many reasons
Many new moms experience excessive hair shedding after pregnancy. Hair shedding usually peaks about four months after giving birth. By their child’s first birthday, most women regain their normal hair growth. If your hair does not regain its normal fullness after one year, you may want to see a dermatologist. Something else may be causing your hair to fall out. People lose hair for many reasons, and an accurate diagnosis is essential for effective treatment.

The dry and dusty harmattan season is no fun for our natural hair. The season is often characterized by dry, dusty and cold weather, so it is important that we give extra care to our general health especially our hair.
Whether you have locks or loose natural oily hair, this is the season to take extra good care of your hair.
We all know that the season is, dry and dusty. It tends to dry out our hair much faster causing it to break and makes it difficult to maintain moisture because of how it dries out our hair so fast.
Here are 9 tips on how to take care of your hair during harmattan to avoid excess breakage:
1. Moisturize your hair with a water-based cream or hair lotion (e.g., carrot cream).
2. Cleaning/Washing: Stay away from shampoos during harmattan, instead cowash. Do not shampoo your hair because it dries it out. Cowash helps retain moisture and will still give you a clean hair. Cowash with warm water because the weather is obviously not nice.
3. Spray Bottle: A spray bottle is where you have water – oil – leave in – glycerin mixture. Its very essential. You can have a small spray bottle so you take it with you wherever and you can spritz from time to time to re-moisturise your hair.
4. Deep condition your hair regularly: Deep condition your hair weekly to lock in moisture and strengthen the hair. The harmattan season can also make your hair look dry and dull, moisturize daily to add shine and reduce dryness.
5. Protective styles are a great option: What's a protective style? Any hairstyle that keeps your ends hidden, and has low to-no manipulation. Basically, you want your ends to be well hydrated and covered up.
Tuck your hair away and protect it from the harsh weather. Natural hair is versatile and you can wear weaves just like anyone else.
6. Increase your water intake: Water is good for the body. Everyone should drink up to 8 glasses of water per day for healthy skin, hair and nails. If you have to take 8 glasses of water when the weather is normal then you certainly have to take more when it is Harmattan. So, drink up! Your hair will thank you for it.
7. Avoid dust or dusty environment: It is almost impossible to avoid dust this period but it’s one of the things you should do to care for your hair. When going out you can wear a hat to prevent dust from settling on your hair.
8. Eat more vegetables and fruits that can provide you with the daily vitamins and minerals that you need: Eat three meals a day or five little ones, and keep to a regular healthy eating routine.
9. Hot oil treatment: The heat from the oils (or dryer, depending on your method) opens up the strand cuticles, ensuring pe*******on of moisture into your hair.
***Remember always moisturise and seal hair as frequently as possible. Don’t let your hair dry out***. 💦💦💦

"HOW DO I WASH MY FRONTAL CURLY HAIR WIGS??🤔🤔".
Here are the basic 10 steps to washing curly lace front wigs and all the other types of curly hair wigs:
;
Detangle while the hair is dry using your fingers, Always start at the ends of the hair and work your way towards the roots (lace wig cap).
As the Human hair is the weakest when wet, so detangling when dry means you're less likely to strain the strands of hair and ruin the curly texture - if you over stretch the hair, the curly texture won't return.
;
While the hair is still dry, use a wide tooth comb and start combing from the ends of the hair, working towards the lace wig cap.
Gently tease out any knots or tangling without tugging or pulling out the hair.
;
Place the curly lace front wig (or other type of curly hair wig) on a wig stand or mannequin head if you have one and If you don't have one, then place your hand inside the wig and let the wig hang.
;
Mix your shampoo with some warm water in a spray bottle and spray the hair until it's saturated, If you don't have a spray bottle then (get one!) then use an empty water bottle (filled with no more than 500ml) as you don't want the curly lace wig to be dripping heavily at this point.
;
Using a wide tooth comb, start combing from the ends of the hair and move towards the top (wig cap) in order to distribute the shampoo and water...The idea is that you don't rub or massage the hair as this can cause it to tangle (yes, all the shampoo ads love to show women rubbing their hair against they're heads, but in reality all that does is create a whole lot of tangled hair).
;
Rinse the hair by pouring lukewarm water over the hair (using the shower, tap or bottle). Take hold of all of the hair and gently squeeze starting at the top (near the wig cap) by working your way down to the ends.
;
If you have a shower you can keep opening and closing your hand (squeezing) your hair at the same time as the water is running, but do not rub the hair.
*Repeat steps 4, 5, 6 and 7 if you think the hair is not clean.*
;
After the final rinse, whilst the hair is still dripping, use a wide tooth comb and comb the hair starting at the ends and working up to the top (wig cap)...This does two things: (a)It removes any tangles and (b)It will ensure that each of the small sections of hair that makes up the individual locks of curls can reform.
:
If you use hair serum or hair oil, apply it at this stage as this will seal the moisture into the hair (in the same way that baby oil is applied to wet skin) and use your wide tooth comb to distribute the serum or oil.
;
Curly hair wigs (whether curly lace front wigs, curly full lace wigs or other types of curly wigs) should always dry in an upright position where the hair can hang. This is essential for retaining the curls as it allows the hair to dry in a way that lets the curls reform and set. ...This is so important, we'll say it again: always dry curly hair wigs by letting them hang, whether on a stand or hanging from the shower head, and never let them dry flat, otherwise the curls will be distorted.
(Optional Step):
When the hair is damp, you can lightly mist it with spray moisturizer but don't comb the hair.
Step 11
Leave the curly lace front wig to air dry and there's more to caring for your curly lace front wigs than just washing. If it's a human hair curly wig, then it will require deep conditioning, as well as moisturizing (as part of a styling regime) which will help you maintain the lovely curly texture and prolong the life of the wig.
