I TRIED OPENING THE DOOR TO AUNTY RUNKY'S ROOM BUT STOPPED TRYING THE MOMENT I HEARD HER MOANING OUT LOUD. I was shocked when I realized she was in the room with my father. 🤯👀😱

Her voice quavered and she mumbled to herself as she flipped through her photo album.

At the right-hand side of my parents' bedroom was a vintage nightstand that held a ceramic lamp, and a massive, colorful bed anchored the room, dressed with crisp white linen with navy accent pillows.

She gazed at the photo album with a wistful smile, remembering those days when she had a blissful marriage. As she traced the faded faces in the photo album, she had been married for sixteen years, and I was very sure that those faces in the album were not familiar at all.

I stood behind her without her seeing me, waiting for the perfect moment to surprise her.

And then she turned to see me in the bedroom, freezing in her tracks with an unmistakable look of shock in her eyes.

"Elizabeth, why are you where? You're not allowed into your father's bedroom" She said, looking around to see if he was coming into the bedroom.

"I know all that...." My Mom interrupted, "You know that, and why are you where?"

I moved closer and then sat beside her trying to catch a glimpse of the pictures.

"Mom, I came to tell you something very important..." I muttered in a low tone.

"Is it about your school?" She asked, inquisitively.

I attended only a girls' school, and I had been absent for almost a term - I stayed in the boarding school.

A few days before my exams, I was in the hostel studying, trying to focus on one word at a time when Christine rushed into the hostel crying - I felt a sudden surge of compassion immediately, maybe because I had never heard someone crying that loud before.

"Priscilla, mo**sted me," She said, between throaty sobs.

"You need to calm down now," I said, rubbing her back.

She raised her face and then said, wiping the tears trickling down her cheeks, "Do you know she threatened to frustrate me if I don't give in to her advances...."

"Wait, you mean she's a le***an?" I asked her.

She nodded wordlessly.

After hearing about her ordeal, it triggered me, and I couldn't stop talking, "Just because she's our senior doesn't give her the right to mo**st you...."

Christine didn't want to go, but I managed to coax her all the way to the girls' hostel.

We met with the Chief porter - she was a rotund dark woman.

I reported Christine's experience to her but she failed to take swift action.

Without fear, I entered the girls' hostel.

"Where's that nasty Priscilla?" I shouted.

Priscilla and the other girls rushed out to see who was shouting.

"I am Priscilla and who wants to see me?" She asked me, pulling my dress and jacking me up against the wall before I could explain myself.

During the desperate struggle, I placed my fingers in her eyes.

And as she shouted, she let go of my shirt.

The Chief porter had to take me to the principal's office.

"Sir, Elizabeth came to hostel A to f!ght with a senior prefect."

Without hearing from me, the principal gave me a two-monthh suspension.

I TRIED OPENING THE DOOR TO AUNTY RUNKY'S ROOM BUT STOPPED TRYING THE MOMENT I HEARD HER MOANING OUT LOUD. I was shocked when I realized she was in the room with my father. 🤯👀😱

Aunty Runky and I both rushed out to welcome my mom - She was frail and could barely walk away from the car.

Musa had to take the bags from the boot into the house while my father moved swiftly toward the garden side, drawn away by the ringing phone.

We could barely hear him because he answered the call in a low murmur.

Aunty Runky moved to help her come out of the car. It was clear she acted as though she cared only because we were watching her.

"Mummy Elizabeth, be careful so you won't hurt yourself...." Aunty Runky said, trying hard to be polite.

The pain in my mom's eyes tells it all, revealing the hidden struggles she refused to share with anyone.

Aunty Runky leaned forward to help my mom, but sensing the discomfort, she refrained from her hand and simply offered a polite smile.

"Mom, are you sure you're okay?" I inquired, moving close to assist her instead.

"I'm getting better, although the doctor said I lost much blood...." She said, wincing in pain as she stiffly made her way out of the car.

I watched her as she limped toward the house and her caramel skin looked dry and had lost its signature dewy glow.

"Mom, what really happened that night?" I asked, then walked behind her while waiting for an answer.

"Your father and I had a misunderstanding and he mistakingly h!t me on the head.

The jagged scar slicing across her forehead was impossible to ignore.

"You mean Dad did this to you?" I reacted irrationally, "Kelvin is very mean to you..."

"Hmmm, he's still your father remember....You should accord him some respect" My Mom uttered.

Instantly, there was silence, the moment we reached the entrance.

Dad and Aunty Runky were in the living room when we entered. Musa, who was in the corner of the house, laughed at every joke the comedian told, his eyes crinkling with genuine warmth.

Immediately, my father told her, "Bring those bottles of orange drink in the fridge..."

Aunty Runky moved to get them and was back shortly and placed the bottles next to my father.

My father was a managing director in a juice factory. Over the years, he had been able to build an empire for himself.

When I look at his modest job, sometimes I wonder where he got all the money from to fund his lifestyle.

He poured out the drink for everyone to drink but my mom refused to drink.

My Dad had a blank face and it was impossible to tell what he was thinking.

"Why have you refused to drink?" He probed, avoiding eye contact.

My Mom was nervous as she responded, her voice was lower than usual.

"I don't feel like drinking...."

My father didn't say any more words but swirled the drink around his cheeks.

I had to say something to please my Dad - "It tastes nice Dad...."

"It tastes like fresh orange..." Aunty Runky said, closing her eyes to savor the taste.

Musa sipped the orange juice hurriedly before rushing out the door.

"Oga, thank you for the juice."

My father smiled warmly and echoed, "Don't mention it."

My Mom moved upstairs to change, and a few minutes later, I said to my father, "Dad, I want to use the restroom..."

Without asking any questions, he permitted me, and I went straight to the bedroom to meet my mom.

Her voice quavered as she mumbled to herself as she flipped through her photo album.
