👉 Hydroquinone- This should be avoided by everyone except recommended by your dermatologist or esthetician and must be used according to their specification but pregnant women need to stay away from hydroquinone completely for the sake of their baby

👉 Retinoids ( Retinol, retin A, retinyl palmitate) They have been linked to major birth defects in children so ensure that whatever topical product you are using does not carry this in its ingredients list

👉 Essential oils - Because of the various safety risks posed by essential oils. There are quite a number of essential oils that are considered unsafe for pregnancy and infants and sometimes these differ from person to person

Therefore, in order to ensure overall safety, please suspend usage of essential oils until post delivery

👉 Salicylic acid - Although this narrative is fast changing as research is going on that shows pregnancy could work hand in hand with salicylic acid, unless you are being supervised by a dermatologist or esthetician, please avoid using salicylic acid products when you are pregnant
