In the Yorùbá Ifá tradition, a live catfish known as eja aró is sometimes used in rituals honoring one’s Ori (the personal spiritual head and divine destiny).
This act is performed to:
• Clear negative energy
• Restore emotional and spiritual balance
• Invite blessings and alignment
The catfish represents resilience, adaptability, and survival, as it thrives in shifting waters. During the ritual, the live fish may be gently placed upon the head as a symbolic act of transferring and washing away spiritual burdens.
Afterward, practices differ by lineage and priestly instruction. In some traditions, specific parts of the fish particularly the head and tail are prepared and eaten as a sacred completion of the rite. In other traditions, the fish is returned to the river, symbolizing the release of negativity back to the natural flow of life.
As with all Ifá practices, the exact method depends on guidance from a trained Babaláwo or spiritual elder within that lineage. 🌊🐟

Òrìṣà Ọ̀sanyìn
Ọ̀sanyìn is the Yoruba Òrìṣà of herbal Medicine, Plants, and the deep forest. He is the master of all Botanical Knowledge and is essential to all Yoruba rituals because he holds the "Secrets of the Leaves" (Ewé) required to activate Spiritual Power.
🧉Key Roles and Characteristics
🔥Divine Herbalist: Ọ̀sanyìn is the patron of herbalists and healers (Onishegun). He is believed to know the medicinal and spiritual properties of every plant in existence.
🔥The "One-Legged" Òrìṣà: Mythological accounts often describe him as having only one eye, one arm, and one leg. This physical state is sometimes explained as the result of a conflict or a test of his powers, yet it does not hinder his speed or ability to hunt.
🔥Relationship with Orunmila: He is a close companion and servant to Orunmila (the Òrìṣà of divination). While Orunmila provides the diagnosis through Ifa, Osanyin provides the botanical "Prescription" for the cure.
🔥Omniscience: Often called "the one who sees everything," he acts as a protector against malevolent forces and witchcraft.
🧉Symbols and Icons
🔥Opa Osanyin: His primary symbol is a wrought-iron staff topped with a large bird surrounded by smaller birds. The birds represent his ability to travel between heaven and earth and his mastery over the "mothers" (powerful spiritual forces often associated with birds).
🔥Color & Nature: His sacred color is green, and his domain is the wild, untamed forest.
🔥Ewe (Leaves): In the Yoruba faith, it is said that "Without leaves, there is no Orisha" (Kò sí ewé, kò sí Òrìṣà), meaning no ceremony is valid without the herbal preparations Osanyin governs.
🧉Worship and Presence
Osanyin is venerated throughout West Africa (Nigeria, Benin) and in the African Diaspora, where he is known as Ossain in Candomblé (Brazil) and Osain in Santería (Cuba). Followers may use specialized mobile apps like Osanyin: Yoruba Herbs to identify thousands of plants by their traditional Yoruba names for modern practice.

The Importance & Sovereignty of Ori
Ori san mi(Ori guide me)
Ori gbe mi (Ori support me)
Ori ja fun mi (Ori fight for me)
Ori mi ma pada l'eyin mi (Ori do not forsake me)
The relevance, importance and sovereignty of Ori should not be minimized. I am constantly talking about Ori during consultations, workshops etc and I will never stop. Ori is key to spiritual development. Ori is not just the Yoruba word for physical head, it is a whole lot more than that.
Ori is your spiritual head, your higher consciousness, the creator and dispenser of your destiny, and your inner divine self. It is where thoughts and emotions merge to become wisdom, where consciousness is both born and resides.
In Yoruba spirituality, Ori is the highest level of communication between Olodumare (the Supreme Being) and all of creation. Ori mediates between the spirit realm and the physical world—between what is and what could be. Every blessing, every manifestation, every destiny unfolds through Ori. Ori is there to protect, guide, support and elevate you. Ori is there to lead you towards fulfilling your destiny.
To give Ori a Western equivalent is to do Ori a great injustice. Ori is simply Ori. Ifa teaches us that before we venerate any other deity we must venerate our Ori. I know there is a tendency in the diaspora to run straight to the Orisha and even want to have a house full of them. However, like I always say, we mustn't forget the "Ori" in "Orisa".
It is important to start connecting with and venerating your Ori TODAY and you can start in the comfort of your own home. Check out the blog post below for more information on Ori, watch the full video and you can also download a FREE PDF for your Ori morning prayers.
May your Ori protect you from all evil, negative energy and harm.
May your Ori guide your Ese(legs) towards cool lands, prosperity and fulfilling your destiny.

Alaafia
Ifa is a spiritual family, community. A Babalawo means literally ‘a father’ or a ‘godfather’, and Iyanifa is a ‘godmother’ in a spiritual sense.
They are in service to their community. They are not higher in status than anyone else. They are devoted and dedicated patrons of their community who have over the years sacrificed, studied, transformed to receive their own highest Selves in order to SERVE their community.
Their role is to hold the energy of their Ile. To review their own thoughts, actions, attitudes to the highest of standards so that they can raise the members of their spiritual family… Ire gbogbo 🙏🏿

Why is it hard for another person to take you in after your wrong Initiation?
It's nothing more than energy.
We don't know the energy they claimed to have
We don't know the power they claimed to have
We don't know how strong the powers are
We don't know how authentic the power are
The fair of energy mixture and minds is the reason why people don't want to take an half baked bread .
Your former OLUWO would say A, your new Teacher would say V.
Confusion would start. .
Your life started turning upside down due to confusion.
You don't want to let go of your former teachings , yet you want to learn from your new Teacher .
A bad foundation looking for a better bricklayer to complete a faulty cracked building.
